2014 WorldSkills Australia National Competition, Perth – ‘The Ultimate Skills Challenge’

This event has passed!

The 2014 WorldSkills Australia National Competition – ‘The Ultimate Skills Challenge’ will return to the city of Perth for the first time since 1989. The nation’s largest and most prestigious skill and trade competition, will be held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre between the 18th and 20th of September and will play host to 500 of Australia’s best trainees, apprentices and students for three days of exciting competition. This unique event, held every two years, will provide these young professionals with the opportunity to benchmark their skills against their peers in over 50 specialised competition categories, ranging from the traditional trades such as Automotive Mechanics, Cookery and Plumbing to the more contemporary professions of Mechatronics and Web Design. The National Competition will also feature up to 30 of WorldSkills Australia’s Try’aSkill interactive activities allowing visitors with the opportunity to try their hand at a wide range of trade and skill areas including Hairdressing, Carpentry, Bricklaying and many more. Visitors will also get the chance to interact with skilled tradespeople whilst seeking information from industry experts, apprentices, teachers, trainers and local business owners about VET pathways. In addition to battling it out for the gold medal and the prestigious title of ‘Nation’s Best’, the competitors will also be vying for a coveted position on the 2015 Team Australia Skillaroos. The 2015 Team Australia Skillaroos will be heading to Brazil to represent Australia and their industry at the 43rd WorldSkills International Competition, the culmination of WorldSkills competitions, to be held in São Paolo from the 11th to the 16th of August, 2015. Medallists from the National Competition are also encouraged to apply for one of the many highly sought after scholarship opportunities associated with WorldSkills Australia. The WorldSkills Australia scholarship pathways provide successful recipients the chance to pursue further skill development through study, work experience, overseas travel or financial support.
