2010 Zig Zag Festival ‘Stirk du Soleil’
Last Sunday in October is the ZIG ZAG FESTIVAL.
It's the largest community-run family friendly festival in WA, with more FREE activities for young children and for youth and interesting stuff for adults too!
There are THREE STAGES of entertainment: The main stage has the large groups including belly dancing, choirs, gymnastics, and cheerleading;
The Checkerboard Stage has the acoustic bands, playing folk and jazz;
the Youth Stage has young bands, most of them locals from the Hills.
CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES, as always, are all free.
This is not show bags and rides; this is hands-on craft, creation and interaction.
Making musical instruments, garlands, face painting, clay, fabric, woodwork…
The YOUTH ACTIVITIES are mostly free and include nails, badges, make-up, temporary tattoos.
There are skills workshops too: circus skills, music, and poi, and (ever popular with the littlies) BubbleMania.
The CIRCUS THEME this year (we're calling it Stirk du Soleil") means there will be roving clowns, jugglers, eccentric musicians, and you could join in the circus theme in the STREET PARADE at 6pm down Haynes Street.
While all this is going on there are dozens of ARTS & CRAFT STALLS all through the shady areas of the park. There are FOOD STALLS to keep up your energy and surprise you with their diversity. There are displays by local Community Groups (like Kanyana Wildlife Rescue and Men of the Trees) you might join or support.
It's a free, fun day for all the family. See you!
