kate miller-heidkeKate Miller-Heidke returns to Perth and performs at Amplifier on Thursday 19 March, Players Bar Mandurah on 20 March and the Fly By Night in Fremantle on Saturday 21 March 2009.

Fearless. That was the word that kept coming up when Kate Miller-Heidke was dreaming up her second album. Fun was another one. The fact that she dared to dream either of them while her debut of ‘07, LITTLE EVE, was still ringing loud and clear suggests a couple more F-words. Forward. And Fast.
CURIOUSER radiates a newfound sense of mutual certainty from the first song. “The One Thing I Know” is an audacious mash-up of primal percussion, stomp box, ’80s synth squiggles, oddball sound effects and operatic interjections that sticks together into a seamless three minutes of timeless radio pop with enough glue left over to stick in any head in its path.

Tickets from Heatseeker for $20 + booking fee.

Biffy ClyroScottish rockers Biffy Clyro return to Australia and perform in Perth on Saturday 21 March 2009 at Capitol!

You’ll have heard of biffy clyro before of course. About how Simon Neil and school friend twins James and Ben Johnston formed their first band as young teenagers at school in the nearby town of Kilmarnock in 1995 over a shared love of experimental rock and hardcore.
And you’ll probably know about their three albums; Blackened Sky, The Vertigo Of Bliss and Infinity Land, which slowly saw them notch up higher and higher chart positions.
Two and a half years later the bands hard work was unveiled as the next truly, historically, important rock record to come out of the British Isles. It was called Puzzle and was released in September 2007. Puzzle was a gigantic, ostentatious raising of their game.

Tickets go on sale Wednesday 28 January from Moshtix.

amanda palmerAmanda Palmer returns to Australia with her band The Danger Ensemble, and performs her first ever show in Perth at the Fly By Night in Fremantle on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 March 2009.

A one-woman machine, The Dresden Dolls’ Amanda Palmer is a rock musician, artist, writer, political activist and more. With a penchant for the complicated, Amanda Palmer’s debut solo outing Who Killed Amanda Palmer snowballed from a small idea into a project that’s nothing short of brilliant.
Who Killed Amanda Palmer sees our fearless heroine weaving together the many threads of her personality, her interests, her extensive artistic family, her astute, witty world observations and the stark openness of her feelings into a dynamic record that pushes emotional limits while staying true to its genius creator. From Amanda Palmer, we would expect nothing less.

Zoe Keating and Lyndon Chester support.

Tickets on sale from Ticketek.

morbid angelMorbid Angel return to Australia after 13 years and perform at Capitol in Perth on Wednesday 3 June 2009.

To see past the secure foundations of convention and into an entirely new state of being demands the strength, conviction and true sense of purpose possessed only by a chosen few. They are the innovators, the leaders, the ones who transcend perceived limitations. MORBID ANGEL have consistently succeeded in shattering the musical, spiritual and ideological boundaries of extreme music while unquestionably retaining their core element of brutal and inspirational excellence.

Doors open 7.30pm.

Tickets from 27 January at Moshtix for $60 + booking fee.

NZ comedian and actor Rhys Darby, probably best known for playing band manager Murray Hewitt in ‘Flight of the Conchords’, comes to Perth for a live show on Tuesday 10 March at the Regal Theatre in Subiaco.

By combining stand-up story telling with physical theatre Rhys has developed a truly unique style of comedy performance. His sensational blend of sound effects, characterizations and askew observations have been reducing audiences world-wide to a state of bewildered hysteria since he launched himself onto the international circuit in 2002.
Rhys is currently starring in Jim Carrey’s film ‘Yes Man’ which is in cinemas now. In April he will be seen in ‘The Boat That Rocked’ a new film by Richard Curtis.
In the meantime Rhys has been filming the second series of ‘Flight of the Conchords’ which airs in January in the US and later this year in Australia.

Tickets on sale Tuesday 27 January from Ticketek for $45.50.
