The Living End’s amazing live shows have been a staple in every music fan’s calendar with a fierce reputation for putting on gigs of the highest standard.

TRIPLE J LIVE AT THE WIRELESS

Birds of Tokyp play a free gig at the Fly By Night in Fremantle on Sunday 3 August. Doors open at 2pm. Tickets can be won via triple j, listen to Dools and Linda daily from 3pm!

Metal band Carcass return to Australia for the first time in 15 years, and will perform in Perth at Capitol on Thursday 9 October 2008.

Along with originators Napalm Death, Carcass pioneered the heavy metal subgenre of grindcore, a style that in its purest form consisted of extremely short, chaotic blasts of guitar/bass/drums noise overlaid with guttural, bleeding-throat vocals. Carcass eventually shifted towards more traditional song structures, and then into a more accessible yet still highly intense thrash/grindcore hybrid. Where Napalm Death concerned itself with social protest in its often barely comprehensible lyrics, Carcass’ early vocabulary was taken straight from medical textbooks and glossaries, achieving a bizarrely humorous gore factor most metal bands could only dream of.

Tickets on sale through Moshtix for $55 + booking fee.

Beach House

Change of venue: now Mojo’s in North Fremantle.

Beach House come to Australia for there first ever tour here in August. The Baltimore duo of Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally will perform at The Rosemount Hotel Mojo’s Bar in Fremantle on Sunday 24 August 2008.

A devoted cult has sprung up around Beach House following their two gorgeously dark dreampop albums, Beach House and Devotion. Beach House’s live performances create an intense and otherworldy space with organs, slide guitars, reverb, harmony, layers, echoes and melodies and Victoria’s extraordinary voice and presence.
As a special treat for Australian audiences, the Beach House duo will be accompanied by drummer and percussionist Dave Bergander of Baltimore art-rockers Celebration, with support from New Zealand’s space pop goddess, Bachelorette. Intimate and warm, sensual and hazy, the dreamlike magic and compelling beauty of Beach House provide the surefire antidote to the winter blues.

Support Acts: Fabulous Diamonds (Melbourne), The Tigers, Astral Travel

Tickets are on sale through Moshtix for $25 + booking fee.

Daniel O Donnell

Irish ‘easy listening’ entertainer, Daniel O’Donnell, returns to Australia and will perform at Burswood Theatre on Wednesday 10 September 2008.

He may be a superstar, but Daniel remains as excited and enthusiastic about his work and his fans as when he first launched his career. Daniel has never forgotten that it was the public who gave him his success in the first place, especially as he struggled long and hard to achieve his ambitions.

A native of Kincasslagh, Co. Donegal, he took his first tentative steps into the musical spotlight as a member of the church choir singing at social events in his local parish hall. Daniel’s concert appearances since have taken him from London’s Royal Albert Hall and Dublin’s Point Depot to New York’s Carnegie Hall and Sydney’s Opera House, but he still continues to set himself fresh ambitions and new worlds to conquer.

Support: Mary Duff.

Tickets are $86.90 from Ticketek.

After releasing a series of independent records that saw them relentlessly touring the country with everyone from 311 to opening for punk legends the Sex Pistols, Unwritten Law garnered the mainstream attention they so richly deserved with the release of their fourth album “Elva”. In 2003 the group stripped down for an acoustic live record “Music in High Places”, while the group’s 2005 release “Here’s to The Morning” debuted on the Billboard Charts Top 200 at #51.
