The Pretenders, Paul Kelly, WA’s The Kill Devil Hills and The Church are set to headline this one at Sandalford Wines in the Swan Valley.

“It’s never been my intention to change the world or set an example for others to follow. I just wanted to play guitar in a rock and roll band and make music that people could dig.” There’s no doubt Chrissie Hynde has achieved that and much, much more. As the lead singer and songwriter of THE PRETENDERS, Hynde has earnt her place in rock history as one of the genre’s most compelling lead singers in one of THE great rock bands.

Update February 07: this event is not going ahead in 2007, as the main organiser will not be available. So it should be going ahead for 2008.

After the The West reporting about this on Thursday, Tourism Minister Sheila McHale has now announced this new international event for Perth.

The Minister said that over the four-day event, music gurus would attend conferences during the day, then watch new and unsigned bands play in venues around Perth at night – meaning Western Australian music lovers also had access to great bands.

The first event will be held in November 2007 and will probably be attended by more than 500 people, with many more expected during 2008 and 2009 events, and maybe even beyond that.
In The City was first held in Manchester in 1992, and has helped launch the careers of bands like Oasis, Coldplay, Catatonia, Placebo, and Arctic Monkeys.

To read the whole press realease, see the Tourism WA website.
