The Southbound festival in Busselton will be held on 6 January 2007, and is a weekend of music, camping and arts, often described as a ‘european’ style festival (though the main acts still all play over one day). 2007 will be the third year for this annual festival.
This year you can camp on two nights, Friday 5 and Saturday 6 January 06. There will be acoustic performances on the Friday night, and busses going into Busselton on Friday night and Saturday morning. These tickets are $139 if you book an e-ticket through the website. Camping is only for over 18’s.
You can also buy a ticket just for the Saturday. These are $89 if you book through the website.
Tickets can also be bought through Ticketek, and various retail outlets but will incur a booking fee.
For all the other types of tickets, info on the busses that will go from Perth, Bunbury, Yallingup, Margaret River and Busslton and lots more info, see the Sunset Events website.
Elton John new Perth show – announced for 10 May 2008
It has been confirmed, Elton John will be performing at Burswood Dome on Monday 11 December 2006.
This eagerly awaited national tour will be a rare opportunity to see and hear Elton live in concert indoors. This concert will be an evening of classic Elton John songs – a 2 hour non stop concert even more spectacular than any Elton event to date, with flawless production and huge screens to ensure that every seat is excellent.
Internet presale commences 8 September at 12 noon for My Ticketek members (if you haven’t received the email with the special password, you better contact them).
Tickets go on sale from 14 September at 9am from Ticketek.
On Elton John’s website you can become a member of The Rocket club. It’s worth looking into to see if you can get earlier access to tickets.
Thanks to Bronwen at PerthNorg for the tip!
We recently went to the Funk Club for the first time with friends and had a great time dancing the night away! I sometimes wonder how I have never heard of certain things in Perth, even if it’s being going for a while, and quite close to where I live (we lived in Mt Hawthorn last year)!!
The Funk Club is a weekly affair, held every Friday night upstairs at the Leederville Hotel at The Rosemount Hotel in North Perth.
It kicks off at 8pm, with the Funk Club House Band up first. Then there’s usually a guest band and dj.
The types of music that are played include funk, ska/reggae, jazz, fusion, hip-hop, world music, r&b and electronic forms of music.
Entry is $8, but if you become a member for $12, entry will only be $5.
The Rosemount Hotel is located at 459 Fitzgerald St, North Perth – map
The Swan Valley Wine Show is being held from 21 to 24 September 2006. The public tastings and exhibit will be held on Sunday 24 September at Houghton Winery in Middle Swan, from 11am to 3pm.
Tickets are $15 if purchased from the Swan Valley and Eastern Region Visitor Centre or $20 at the door, which includes a tasting glass.
It is expected there will be more than 200 wines available for tasting.
A long weekend of music, friends, food, films, freedom, camping and a unique location, while being environmentally friendly!
The Wave Rock Weekender is being held at Wave Rock near Hyden (340km east of Perth) on the long weekend of 30 September to 2 October 2006 for the first time!
This is no English country garden festival or sports oval event….this is a weekend long experience on the edge of the desert in Western Australia; prehistoric rock formations, eerie salt plains, shiny salmon gums, wildflowers and big, big sky.
Little Birdy, Ash Grunwald, Loyd Spiegel, Salmonella Dub, Gersey and Sodastream are among the long list of artists playing, which includes acts from the UK, US and New Zealand. The cinema will be showing a program of arthouse, environmental, desert-themed, and classic films.
Tickets are available from the website and are $120. This includes entry to the event site and all music and film performances from 12 noon Saturday 30 September to 12 noon Monday 2 October. When you book tickets you will have to book accomodation and travel at an extra expense.
Coach travel is one of the options, and will cost $60 for a return seat from Leederville Village. If travelling by car each passenger will have to pay $20, so coach does seem like the best option. Read all travel details here.

Update: TFP has done a great post with nice photos about her day at the show on Saturday.
And another post: Part 2, the animals (my favourite part!).
Part 3, the food (her specialty 😉 )
The Chinese Lion Dancing and Kungfu Circus will be performing at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre from Friday 29 September to Sunday 1 October.
See the outrageously risky LONG LION JUMPING display, the LION DANCING performance and LION DANCING THROUGH FLAMING FIRE. All of which have received awards in China for their bravery and stunning production. But perhaps the most amazing part of the show is the audacious and unique display of SHAOLIN KUNG-FU inlcuding the standing of sharp spears (do not try this at home).
Tickets available through Ticketmaster.
Shows for Monday 2 October have been cancelled.
