Today we picked up Bailey from the Poundwatch shelter. He is about 2 years old, and a terrier cross.

For this particular shelter, we had to fill out an application form to see if we were appropriate for the dog. We then made an appointment, and they brought out several dogs we thought we might like. It was hard only choosing one! (we might get a second one in the future)

A most of the other shelters (like the RSPCA) you can wander in during opening hours and look at all the dogs.

Some websites if you are interested in getting a dog:
Reasons not to get a dog from a pet shop!! (ridiculous that it is still allowed!! I don’t blame people for falling in love with the poor puppies though! But dogs in pounds are getting put down every week (seriously, in some pounds, several dogs get put down every Thursday!) And then there’s the Breeding farms, argghhhh!!!

RSPCA – Advise about pet care, dogs and cats for adoption. And of course the ‘Million Paws Walk’ on Sunday 30 April in South Perth and other places around WA.

Went out into Fremantle tonight to have half price nacho’s at Zapata’s (Monday’s and Tuesday’s)
It was very busy (lots of students, ha ha) zo we had a drink at the Sail and Anchor first. Very nice to sit on the balcony there!

The plates of Nacho’s aren’t as big as they used to be at Zapata’s, but still very nice. Afterwards we did have some room for a half price Waffle at the place next door….

This afternoon I went with a group of 10 into Northbridge to have dim sum! Ohhhhh, nice! Why have I never had this before??!!! And it’s soooo cheap! We spent $11 each, for heaps of savoury and sweet dim sum, green tea and water!

In Northbridge there are at least 10 restaurants that specialise in dim sum, and apparently they’re good. Actually, I know they’re good, because they all had big lines outside them (which is normal for Sunday’s apparently).
I definitely recommend you go some time, and go with at least 4 people, so you can share everything!
We went to the Orient Inn, which is opposite the Brass Monkey.

Saturday we met up with friends at the The Hula Bula Bar, which was a real experience! Very nicely decorated, with all sorts of scary masks (like Maori ones), bamboo, lights, etc! It’s at 12 Victoria Avenue, Perth, so towards East Perth when you’re in the city. It’s hidden away, underneath a hotel.

They had very nice cocktails, from $10 to $32!! Because we arrived early (8.30pm) we had a nice corner, but the peoples that were later had to wait in line for ages! It was very popular, and small!

Unfortunately it also closed at midnight, but some of us went on to Northbridge, which was still very lively. Ended up in Leederville having a kebab.

Opening times as at May 2007:

Wednesday 4-11pm

Thursday 4-11pm

Friday 4-1am

Saturday 6-1am

Tuesday and Sunday for functions

Tonight we saw‘La VeillĂ©e des Abysses’ in the Regal Theatre in Subiaco, a “mesmerising fusion of nouveau cirque, dance and theatre” as part of the annual Perth International Arts Festival. It was a great show, certainly worth the $35.

This week the WAMI’s (WA music industry awards and shows) are on too, lots of gigs all over the place.

This weekend it was quite hot, around 37 degrees. Didn’t do much, spent some time in the pool.

Yesterday afternoon we went to ‘Garden City’ in Booragoon, one of the nicer shopping centres in Perth, Pascal had never been. Got some bargains.

Afterwards we went to nearby Wireless Hill, climbed the lookout (sweating!) and took this nearly 360 degree photo, from the Swan River around past the city in the distance. Click on it to go to a bigger version. It’s a nice spot to do a short walk, or have a bbq.
