Bailey and dog pounds / animal shelters

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

Today we picked up Bailey from the Poundwatch shelter. He is about 2 years old, and a terrier cross.

For this particular shelter, we had to fill out an application form to see if we were appropriate for the dog. We then made an appointment, and they brought out several dogs we thought we might like. It was hard only choosing one! (we might get a second one in the future)

A most of the other shelters (like the RSPCA) you can wander in during opening hours and look at all the dogs.

Some websites if you are interested in getting a dog:
- Reasons not to get a dog from a pet shop!! (ridiculous that it is still allowed!! I don’t blame people for falling in love with the poor puppies though! But dogs in pounds are getting put down every week (seriously, in some pounds, several dogs get put down every Thursday!) And then there’s the Breeding farms, argghhhh!!!

- RSPCA – Advise about pet care, dogs and cats for adoption. And of course the ‘Million Paws Walk’ on Sunday 30 April in South Perth and other places around WA.

RSPCA Million Paws Walk 05

Sunday, May 15th, 2005
Today I was a volunteer at the RSPCA Million Paws walk in South Perth. I had to be there at 7 am to help set up. Then later I meeted/greeted people, manned the information stand, handed out quizzes and was a marshall during the walk. Luckily it didn’t start to rain until it was just about finished, at 12 noon. We had to pack up in the pouring rain though!
All in all it was great fun, and I will certainly do it again, and hopefully more big RSPCA events, of which there aren’t many.
