Rhys Darby – 10 March 09

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

rhys darbyNZ comedian and actor Rhys Darby, probably best known for playing band manager Murray Hewitt in ‘Flight of the Conchords’, comes to Perth for a live show on Tuesday 10 March at the Regal Theatre in Subiaco.

By combining stand-up story telling with physical theatre Rhys has developed a truly unique style of comedy performance. His sensational blend of sound effects, characterizations and askew observations have been reducing audiences world-wide to a state of bewildered hysteria since he launched himself onto the international circuit in 2002.
Rhys is currently starring in Jim Carrey’s film ‘Yes Man’ which is in cinemas now. In April he will be seen in ‘The Boat That Rocked’ a new film by Richard Curtis.
In the meantime Rhys has been filming the second series of ‘Flight of the Conchords’ which airs in January in the US and later this year in Australia.

Tickets on sale Tuesday 27 January from Ticketek for $45.50.

Smokie & special guests perform at the Regal Theatre in Subiaco on Sunday 8 February 2009.

To be rock ‘n’ roll survivors is an achievement. To be Europe’s top live band, thirty years after its inception is truly fantastic but to still be enthusiastic, fresh, totally committed and in love with the music is a positive miracle.

What’s handy for you is that he’s doing shows in Perth and Sydney. What won’t be handy is if you miss out. EACH CITY – 2 NIGHTS ONLY!

Tickets on sale from Ticketek for $38 from 17 November.

Shane Warne The Musical – March 2009

In a country that routinely lops its tall poppies, this show sets out to both celebrate and understand the life of cricket’s most adored and maligned hero as he battles fame, failure, fidelity and the ferocious Australian media.
A sizzling live band and an exceptional cast bring to life a brilliant score which fuses soul, gospel, rock, power ballads, drum n bass, opera and even a touch of Bollywood.

Steve Earle’s recorded music career has to date delivered twelve studio albums and five live albums. Steve has also written books both story and poetry and a stage play.
Asked how he would like listeners to respond to Washington Square Serenade, Earle, characteristically, is ready with a bold answer. “If you feel like you don’t know what America is all about right now, and you want to reorient yourself to what America should be about, it’s a really good time to come to New York City,” he says. “I needed really badly at this point in my life to see a mixed-race, same-sex couple holding hands in my own neighborhood. It makes me feel safer.”
“I’ve been pretty heartbroken about the way things have gone politically in this country the last few years, and I seriously considered moving someplace else,” he concludes. “Then I figured out that I didn’t have to leave the country. All I had to do was come to New York.”
