Adam Hills returns to Perth with his new standup comedy show, Inflatable, from 21 to 24 March 2009 at the Octagon Theatre at UWA.

The host of Spicks and Specks is back, live on stage, with an all-new hour-and-a-bit or world-class standup comedy. Joyous. Uplifting. Inflatable. As well as being seen by more than 1.2 million people on a weekly basis and spending six months of each year touring live internationally, Adam has also won a Helpmann Award, been a three-time nominee for the prestigious Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Fringe and was a Gold Logie nominee at the 2008 Logie Awards.

Wil is rare in the world of stand-up comedy in that year after year his shows keep getting sharper, edgier and most importantly – funnier. The host of the runaway ABC TV hit ‘The Gruen Transfer’ and Triple M’s national drive show, Wil still finds time for his first love, ’stand up’, performing to sell out crowds at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and the Sydney Opera House earlier this year.

Angus and Julia Stone perform in the Octagon Theatre at the University of WA on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June 2008.

With their debut album A Book Like This officially released in the UK and a 30 date overseas tour scheduled for April / May incorporating the UK, Ireland and Europe, the Northern Beaches duo Angus & Julia Stone will definitely be looking forward to heading home for their national tour in June.

This is an all ages show.

Damien LeithDamien Leith is touring for his ‘Where We Land’ album, and will perform at the Octagon Theatre at UWA on Saturday 24 November 2007.

Since winning Australian Idol in 2006 Damien Leith has become one of the most celebrated artists in Australia
The show will be a 2 hour performance of songs from Damien’s new album and some classic favourites like Crying, Un-Chained Melody and Message To My Girl.

The Spring Home Show and Telethon are on at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre all weekend. See the links for much more info, you can be in the audience at Telethon, and there’s a big kids carnival.

The Kelmscott Annual Show is on from Friday afternoon to Saturday night.

Ascot Racecourse opens with a gala from midday on Saturday, and entry is free for everyone.

Government House Open Day is on Sunday from 11am to 4pm. I’ve had this is my (personal) diary for ages, but now we’re going away for the weekend, typical! Admission is free, and there will be displays, entertainment, and you can picnic in the gardens.

Whiteman Park hosts the official opening of Children’s Week on Sunday, with a Family FunSafe Day.

Another family fun day in Leederville: Active Vincent & Pets in the Park Day on Sunday from 10am to 2pm.

Town of Victoria Park presents ‘Colours of Spring Mall‘. Albany Highway will be closed, and there will be activities, stage entertainment and displays, from midday to 4pm on Sunday.

The Blessing of the Fleet is happening in Fremantle on Sunday. A parade goes from St Patrick’s Basilica to the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour and returns, from 2pm. Celebration at the Esplanade Reserve and fireworks at 8pm.

Music

Swedish metal band Arch Enemy will be performing at Capitol on Tuesday night.

Renee Geyer is touring Perth with Vika & Linda. They are performing at the Woodvale Tavern on Thursday, the Civic Hotel on Friday and the Fly By Night Club on Saturday. Tickets are $35, and available at the venue for the Woodvale and Civic, and BOCS for the Civic and Fly By Night Club (with booking fee).

Sarah McLeod (formely of The SuperJesus) is touring Perth this week with Mick Skelton. She’ll be at The Foundry on Wednesday, Players Bar in Mandurah on Friday, The Civic Hotel on Saturday and The Newport Hotel on Sunday. Tickets at BOCS for $13.20.

Birds of Tokyo are playing a gig at Players Bar in Mandurah on Thursday night, entry $10.

A (Friday) Night on the Quiet at Mulberry on Swan features Brisbane Jazz sensation Mark Sholtez. Tickets available for $125 from Mulberry on Swan, and include a five course meal and wine. Pay a bit more and it includes transport from Burswood Resort.

RTRfm presents lots of Brazilian sounds with Spring in Sao Paulo on Friday night at the Luxe Bar in Highgate.

US metal band Killswitch Engage perform at Capitol on Friday night. Tickets $47.40 at BOCS. At 3pm on Saturday they play an underage gig at the same place, same price.

British band Smokie (they’re mostly known for hits in the 70’s) are performing at Burswood Theatre on Saturday night. Tickets are around $80 and available through Ticketek.

Perth band Snowman are launching their new album at Gilkinsons on Saturday night. Tickets around $16 at Heatseeker and at the door.

Performing Arts / Theatre / Circus / Comedy

Wil Anderson is in town and performing ‘Wil Communication’ at the Octagon Theatre at UWA from Wednesday to Saturday. Tickets are $34 and available through BOCS. Tickets sold out for the Friday and Saturday 7.30pm shows.

Guys and Dolls, a musical comedy presented by the MS Society, is on at the Regal Theatre from Friday until Sunday 29 October. Tickets through BOCS are between $27 and $77 depending on date, seats and concessions!

This Thursday at the Comedy Lounge it’s ‘Stand Up for Anti-Poverty Week’, with Dave Callan, Andrea Gibbs, John HowOdd, Xavier Michelides, Stuart Packham and Malcolm Dix. If you want to get in, you’d better get there by 6.30pm to get tickets, see details at the website! For other regular comedy nights around Perth, check out this post! Tickets $20, $15 concession.

The play about a dog in the Pilbara, ‘Red Dog’, is on at the Playhouse Theatre till Saturday 21 October.

Circus Joseph Ashton is at Kingsway Shopping Centre till Sunday 22 October.

A Moment on the Lips, a comedy/drama by seven female Perth actors, is on at The Rechabites’ Hall till Saturday 28 October 2006.

Other

The weekly Village Art Markets are on at King’s Square in Fremantle on Thursday, which include music and children’s activities.

The John Hughes Big Walk is on Sunday, supporting PMH. Register online, the fee is $20 and goes to charity. You don’t have to walk all the way from Perth to Freo!

The Victorian Rose Art and Craft Fair is on at Challenge Stadium on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

More walking for a good cause: Cystic Fibrosis WA are holding a walk-a-thon around Lake Monger on Sunday, registration from 10am. There’ll be entertainment and a sausage sizzle.

There’s a Bonsai Exhibition at the Freo Town Hall on Saturday from 10am to 4pm, $4 entry.

WA’s Pride Festival is on till the end of the month.

The Magical Psychic Healing Expo is on at Sorrento Quay Board Walk (Hillarys Boat Harbour) from Thursday to Sunday, from 10am, entry is free.
