Oktoberfest 2006

Sunday, October 8th, 2006

OktoberfestThere’s a few Oktoberfest celebrations happening in Perth during October that I know about.

The Shed in Northbridge celebrates the festival on Friday 20 October from 12noon. Try traditional German style food and German beer in steins that you get to keep.

Elmar’s in the (Swan) Valley is having a beer and food festival from 10am to late on Saturday 21 and 10am to 5pm on Sunday 22 October 2006. There will be German beer, traditional German live music, German food, and a special appearance by Johnnie Young. There will also be fun for the kids and a face painter. Tickets are $10 for adults (includes a glass to keep with one beer, and kids are free) and are available for prepurchase, or get them in the door (first in best dressed). See the website for details.

The Copperwood Restaurant in Kalamunda will celebrate Oktoberfest on 22 October from 12pm to 5pm. There will be a bbq and buffet ($55 p.p.) and an Austrian Yodelling Trio playing beer songs. See the website for details, and I think you’ll have to book.

Duckstein Brewery in the Swan Valley have an Oktoberfest special on all month.

If anyone knows anymore events happening in Perth for Oktoberfest, let me know in the comments below!

Ten Days on ARTRAGE – Oct/Nov 06

Saturday, September 30th, 2006

ARTRAGETen Days on ARTRAGE is happening from 27 October to 5 November 2006 and will feature a spectacular program of sound, visual art, dance, theatre, film, quality arts and cultural interaction!
A highlight is ‘The Block’, a custom-made arts and cultural experience designed by ARTRAGE and constructed out of sea-containers in the centre of Northbridge which will have a diverse line-up of events. To name just a few treats, there is ’24 HOURS,’ where artists make theatre and films with a time limit of only 24 hours, and a ‘Pet Photo Booth,’ where owners can bring their beloved animals to have some quirky snaps taken. There is also the big, interactive sound toy that is ‘Audiosity’, and ‘Feuerwasser’, a poetic tempest of pure energy created by fire and water in the middle of the street.

The Bakery ARTRAGE Complex will be a late night Festival Club, and have musical entertainment from 9pm every night, dance and theatre performances.

Others events that will be happening include films at Cinema Paradiso, a fashion spectacular and a visual arts exhibition.

A big night of action is on Saturday 4 November, when there will be a Night Market, dance spectacle and more on the streets of Northbridge, for FREE!

The whole program is now the ARTRAGE website and it’s huge! A lot of the events are free or very cheap. The website is quite easy to navigate, but you can also download the program. And it’s also printed in the form of poster, but I don’t where to get it, I got mine from a friend! Keep an eye out for it, it’s got the photo above on one side of it.

Dim Sum in Northbridge

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

This afternoon I went with a group of 10 into Northbridge to have dim sum! Ohhhhh, nice! Why have I never had this before??!!! And it’s soooo cheap! We spent $11 each, for heaps of savoury and sweet dim sum, green tea and water!

In Northbridge there are at least 10 restaurants that specialise in dim sum, and apparently they’re good. Actually, I know they’re good, because they all had big lines outside them (which is normal for Sunday’s apparently).
Here’s a good description of Dim Sum.
I definitely recommend you go some time, and go with at least 4 people, so you can share everything!
We went to the Orient Inn, which is opposite the Brass Monkey.

Northbridge and Ascot Water Playground

Saturday, July 16th, 2005
Friday was our one year anniversary of being in Perth (well, actually 10 years in WA for me).
At 8pm we left for Northbridge, where we met up with some friends.

We started of at the Brass Monkey, and ended at the Elephant & Wheelbarrow.

This afternoon we had a party in High Wycombe.
On the way we stopped at Ascot Water Playground (because I spotted it on the map, and it is very close to Gt Eastern Hwy).

I had already read the sad news last year, that it was permanently closed, but now we saw it. First of all, it was much smaller than I remember. And right next to the Swan River. It was completely abandoned, with very high grass.

Out in Northbridge

Sunday, August 22nd, 2004

Yesterday we drove down to Fremantle with friends to see Xavier Rudd at the Fly By Night club, but of course it was sold out!!

So we drove into Northbridge, walked around for a while, and then found a little bar called ‘Blue to the Bone‘, ha ha! So obviously a Blues bar, and ‘The Tone Doctors’ were playing, very good!

After that we also went to Pot Black for a bit.
