Dora the Explorer is embarking on an all-new LIVE musical adventure in “Search for the City of Lost Toys”. Join Dora, Boots the monkey, Diego and their friends as they embark on an exciting journey through the number pyramid, the mixed-up jungle and more.

Along the way the audience will use their map-reading, counting, musical and language skills to successfully get Dora and friends to the City of Lost Toys.

It had to happen! Dugald is breaking the RocKwiz team out of the confines of the Gershwin Room and bumping them into a Live Australian Tour!

Mistress of ceremonies Julia Zemiro; firm but fair co-host Brian Nankervis; the legendary RocKwiz Orkestra and Dugald (with mystery guests in tow) will be touring live for the first time ever in the show’s five year on-air history! It will be just like you see on your tellie every Saturday night on SBS – but this time, so close you can smell them!

Fremantle Festival opens this weekend (7 November), with a whole bunch of Fringe Festival events until next weekend, 13, 14 and 15 November, when the main free events listed below will take place.

Fremantle Community Fringe Festival – 7 to 15 November
The Fringe Festival showcases the community, coming together to celebrate Fremantle and the creative spirit of its people.
This Sunday 8 November is a big day, join the Valley Park Candlelit Community Feast, celebrate the humble bicycle at ‘Two Wheels Good’ at the Freo Arts Centre in the morning and enjoy some live music for free in the afternoon, join the Dog’s Breakfast and parade at North Fremantle Community Centre, or the Hilton Harvest Lunch in the Park.
And things continue all week!

Perth Festival 2010

Tonight the Perth International Arts Festival 2010 program has launched!

As usual, there’s a crazy amount of cool events: theatre, music (including Beck’s Music Box), dance, visual art, family events, food, the Perth Writers Festival, Lotterwest Festival films and… crochet!. Remember there are many free events included… have your haircut by a child!! Be the art! :D

Some highlights/random mentions:

Antony and the Johnsons with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra on 5 and 6 February at the Perth Concert Hall.

Perth Writers Festival Family Day – a great free day for children 1 to 13 and their families on 28 February from 9.30am to 4pm at UWA.

Be active participants in Danish artist Jeppe Hein’s ever-changing outdoor sculpture Appearing Rooms and Spiral Labyrinth1, from 12 February to 5 April.

AC Grayling, esteemed British philosopher, will provide a provocative opening address for the Perth Writers Festival on 26 February.

Children’s Choice Awards – keep an eye on their blog, the jury’s work culminates with an Awards Ceremony on 27 February from 2pm at His Majesty’s Theatre.

Beck’s Music Box: Yo La Tengo, Jamie Lidell,  Marianne Faithfull, Pivot, Robert Forster, Calexico, Dirty Three, Amadou & Mariam and many more in the very pretty box on the Esplanade, every night from 8.

And remember Beck’s Music Box has free after parties from 10pm, every night of the festival, though ticket holders from that evening have priority entry.

Life and Fate – family drama against the backdrop of major political upheavals in the Soviet Union of 1943 – at His Majesty’s Theatre from 17 to 23 February.

See video art works on the new big screen at Northbridge Piazza every friday night of the festival.

The Sapphires – the true story of a Supremes cover band from NSW who end up in the Vietnam War, with Christine Anu as part of a great cast – from 23 January to 10 February at Playhouse Theatre.

Sing The Truth: The Music Of Nina Simone, sung by jazz greats Dianne Reeves and Lizz Wright, the legendary Patti Austin and Nina’s daughter Simone, performed with the original Nina Simone band in King’s Park on 1 March.

WASO Summer Series Concerts 2010

Experience a taste of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra`s 2010 season with this summer series of special concerts at Kings Park & Botanic Garden this February featuring some of contemporary music`s brightest stars.

Perth indie-rock band The Panics return to their home town to join forces with WASO for a night of hits. The legendary Burt Bacharach (CANCELLED) teams up with WASO for one night only to celebrate four decades of timeless classics. Popular Play School presenter Andrew McFarlane and WASO share the stage to present a special concert of children`s songs and well-known classical pieces. While acclaimed opera sensation Barbara Bonney joins WASO for one special night of music under the stars.

Perth Royal Show – starts Saturday!

The annual Perth Royal Show is on again, from this Saturday 26 September to Saturday 3 October.

The Smoke Free Perth Royal Show is Perth’s biggest community event attracting 400,000 visitors from the city and the country every year. With a rich history spanning 170 years, the Show is an iconic social and cultural event which showcases WA agriculture, small business and entertainment.

Discount tickets are available at IGA supermarkets until 25 September while stocks last.

The Brownes Kids Free Day is on Wednesday 30 September. Children under 12 are free when an empty 1 or 2 or 3 litre white milk carton is presented on this day.

Opening hours are from 9am to 9pm every day with Sideshow Alley staying open until 11pm.

York Soul and Jazz Festival – Oct 2009

The annual York Jazz Festival is on again, from Friday (evening) 23 October to Sunday 25 October 2009, in the small town York, about 100kms east of Perth.

The YORK JAZZ & SOUL FESTIVAL 2009 line up is the absolutely best ever and includes a blend of established and emerging Australian and International jazz & soul artists across five stages covering traditional jazz, be-bop, improvisational jazz, modern jazz, dixieland, soul, youth jazz, swing, gospel, funk, nu-jazz and everything in between.

Chicago – Feb/March 2010

Chicago, the hit musical, comes to Burswood Theatre from 27 February to 28 March 2010.

CHICAGO tells the tale of Roxie Hart, a nightclub dancer who dreams of headlining in Vaudeville, kills her lover, then convinces her husband to come up with the $5000 to hire Chicago’s shrewdest, smoothtalking lawyer Billy Flynn.

The show features Caroline O’Connor reprising the role of Velma, Sharon Millerchip as Roxie and Craig McLachlan as Billy Flynn.
