What’s on this week in Perth?

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Hey kids!

Look up there! Is it a bird? Is it a pl… wait, yeah its a bird.

Urrrgh! What a crazy weekend this is going to be. I honestly don’t know what I’m going to blog about – there are just too many events on to choose from! So, instead of rational decision making, I’l just going to pull three random things out of a hat and give a brief summary as to why you should go see them.

Firstly – Scitech after dark – the science of food! This will be science for adults. Sexy, intoxicated science. Science that you tune into SBS late at night hoping to catch. Awesome science. How can you not love sexy food science? Secondly – The Screaming Jets at the Civic. Are you Australian? Have you been to Australia? Do you know what Australia is? If you answered yes to at least one of those questions, it is your civic duty to see the Jets live. If not, you may be shot by some guy named Greame. Finally – Tokyo Shock Boys at the Regal Theatre. Two words for you. Explosives and genitals. I have absolutely no idea if those words are relevant to the Shock Boys but there is an extremely high possibility that they are. Go see them and report back to me.

In other news, we know the site is called EnjoyPerth! but this Saturday half of the EP! crew are heading down to the MASS Music Festival in Margaret River in Margaret River to catch a bunch of bands playin music in a musical style consisting of rhythm and beat. Our photo monkey will be there so feel free to pose for him if you’re there and you might find yourself featured in an EP! photo album! This time however, I won’t be personally shooting so no need to make faces at me when I walk past. If you do, I will throw a traffic cone at you. You really should come join us. Tickets are cheap and you get the chance to se me throw traffic cones at random idiots.

In case you didn’t notice, we’re giving away tickets to Lisa Mitchell. All you need is a Facebook, a computer, a Internet, a finger, a friends, a electricity and a bag of bricks to throw at me for my poor grammar skills. Head on over to this linky-dink and you’ll find out how to put all those things to good use and possibly win a double pass. As of the time I wrote this blog, NOBODY has entered the competition correctly, so you have a high chance of winning.

Jamie (EnjoyPerth! mouse assembler, firework saboteur and meteorologist) has informed me that the weather is going to be “awesome sweet” this weekend. I assume that means its going to rain candy and chocolates. Since I’ll be out of town, can someone please catch a bucket or two of this sweet magical sky treat and send it over to the EP! offices pronto. Ta!

Whatever you do this weekend, we hope you go out and Enjoy Perth!

- love, hugs and kisses, your EnjoyPerth! pal grum.

What’s on this week in Perth?

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Holey moley moo its the middle of March already?

Give it a few more weeks and it’s Easter. Add a few more weeks on top of that and it’ll be the middle of May! I have no idea why that timeframe is relevant but I thought I might mention it for the people who are having birthdays in the middle of May. Like OMG you guysss, that’s totally random? Yeahno? (that was my weekly attempt at sounding like a cool 17 year old. Did I pass?).

This week is jam-packed with crazy events. I’m fairly sure Perth can retire the label of being boring. No really, just look at tonight’s highlights: Dinosaur Jr at the Rosemount (which I’ll be there – feel free to throw beer coasters at me if you see me), Massive Attack at King’s Park (wish I was there too. Can anyone here clone me?), The Power! Album Show at Villa (why didn’t I get tickets to this? Hello? Ticket fairy? Gimmie).

If you’re like me you might find life a lot easier to live, by covering your left leg in polyunsaturated margarine. If you’re not like me, you’ll probably want to go see Tom Jones – A Day on the Green on Sunday. OK, I lie. I totally love Tom Jones. Its so hot that he’s finally accepted the fact that he’s a million years old and stopped dying his hair. Nothing hotter than a man who accepts his inevitable death. Well, aside from a polyunsaturated left leg that is. On the topic of delicious things, have you participated in any of the Eat Drink Perth events? Do it. Its very tasty.

Jamie (resident EnjoyPerth! aircon installer, knee-capper and meteorologist) informs us that Saturday will be really really really hot. Which will be great for those Puppetry of the Penis guys, cos nobody wants cold performers. Sunday will be quite pleasant with a slight chance of rain. The rest of the week will cool down, bringing all us Sandgropers perfect weather to invite their favourite EnjoyPerth! editors over for a BBQ and a slab of delicious cider. HINT HINT.

Whatever you do this weekend, we hope you go out and Enjoy Perth!

- love, hugs and kisses, your EnjoyPerth! pal grum.

  3. Chicago – Like the movie, but less two dimensional.
  4. Creamfields – WA’s biggest dance music event. Tickets selling out here!
  5. Pixies – Playin’ in the big dustbowl out there in somewhere in wine country.

What’s on this week in Perth?

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Bonjour! Comment allez-vous? Votre grenouille a mangé mon dejeuner!

Ahh yes those French are crazy. That has absolutely nothing to do with anything, I just felt like saying that.

Hey, do you like beauty? Do you like beats? Thats the musical beats, not the edible beets. Although, if you like beets, chances are that you’ll like beats. Well, all the beauties and beats will be at Burswood with food and cocktails galore! Whats even better? Tod Johnston’s band Peace Love And All That Stuff will be there too! Totally Mintox yeh? Details at the EP! event page.

Feelin’ a bit peckish? Eat Drink Perth is on for the entire month of March. There are events happening all over the city, all to-do about food, so you’re excused if you end up putting on a few pounds this month. So check out the various events in Perth and if you’re extra crafty, you might find a page on EnjoyPerth! that will give you the chance to win a free double pass to a very special tour.

Psst, were you thinking about getting tickets to the Groovin’ the Moo festival in May? Might wanna speed up the decision making process. Their Maitland and Bendigo shows have sold out and the Bunbury show has had to be moved (sorry, moooved) because ticket sales have been fantastic. Silverchair and Vampire weekend will be there – must we say more? Oh, OK then… Ummm Empire of the Sun? Grinspoon? Tegan and Sara? I’ll be there? ’nuff said. Details at the EP! event page.

The other day Perth was host to the 140Media event. Representatives from various important Internet companies came from far and wide to remind us all that things like Twitter and Facebook are important to people. Really? Well, I’d better make sure you know that EnjoyPerth! has both a Twitter and a Facebook page! So uh, follow us?

Jamie (resident EnjoyPerth! car detailer, pet shop builder and meteorologist) tells us that the weather is going to be pleasant like a spring day. But it isn’t a spring day, so don’t get your hopes up birds and bees – your time to shine isn’t here yet.

Whatever you do this weekend, we hope you go out and Enjoy Perth!

- love, hugs and kisses, your EnjoyPerth! pal grum.

  3. Creamfields – Massive Dance Music Festival expected to sell out very soon.
  4. Chicago the Musical – A delightfully sexy musical set in prohibition era Chicago.

What’s on this week in Perth?

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Whoopsiedaisy!

This week’s WotWiP post (heh, I like that name – I’m gonna call my first born that…) is 3 hours delayed because someone decided to do the whole “I’ll do it tomorrow” thing not realising that unless he could bend space and time it would have been absostupidly impossible. Whoever that was should have his pay docked immediately. What? It was me? Oh right… Bugger.

So yeah, Its kinda hot this week innit? You kids really don’t want to go out there and do hot, sticky, sweaty things outside do you? But just think about it – if you stay inside, what are you going to do with yourself? The taxes? Scrabble with the ball-n-chain? Re-paint the inside of the linen closet? Actually, that last one is a good idea. But aside from that, you’ll probably find yourself completely and utterly bored so why not get out there with everyone else?

Never fear though – for the people out there who want cool and enjoyable things to do, there are PLENTY of things to do – for example to Floating Film event in Hillarys! You get to enjoy the cool seabreeze whilst having a picnic in front of the big screen. I’m unsure if the screen itself is floating or if you’re actually required to float in the water whilst the screen sits on the beach but regardless its a refreshing way to end the day, plus its free too!

If you’re one of the insane people who are doing Future Music Festival and/or Soundwave this long weekend (like me), EnjoyPerth hopes you slip, slop and slap like crazy as according to Jamie (resident EnjoyPerth! battleship collector, nude skydiver and meteorologist) the weather is as unpredictable as a drunken moose on the highway but unfortunately not as hilarious. Thunderstorms, 40 degree days and steaming hot south-northerly winds are expected with a slight possibility that the weather will either clear up or get worse at the end of the week.

Whatever you do this weekend, we hope you go out and Enjoy Perth!

- love, hugs and kisses, your EnjoyPerth! pal grum.

What’s on this week in Perth?

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Hello.

Have you seen Greg around? He owes me ten bucks.

On the topic on ten bucks, er, no. There is no way I can comfortable segue from ten bucks to the Fiesta Foreshore Festival. Especially when its a free event! Sir James Mitchell Park is going to be the place to be this Sunday with the opening of the City of South Perth’s Fiesta of 2010 and the closing event for the Town of Victoria Park’s Twilight Concert Series. The Festival will be a bonanza children’s activities, face painting, roving performances and a headlining performance by Australian Idol winner, Wes Carr. That’s right – WES CARR! More details at the EP! event page.

Hey, do you like to rock? I kinda figured you do. You’ve got that cool “I really like to rock” look about you. No really, I’m not just trying to be nice here. Gozzy Rock, the greatest rock event to ever be held in Gosnells is back and the spectacular finale is on this Sunday. A little birdie tells me that there will be bands on stage with electric guitars and its highly likely that drums will be on stage as well. Need I say more? Possibly. Apparently the boss will be heading over for the event which means that its definitely the event to go to this weekend as she’s super cool n’ stuff (the EnjoyPerth! boss, not Bruce Springsteen – although it would be really cool if he did turn up). Further details at the EP! event page.

Jamie (resident knight in shining armour, oracle and meteorologist) has just come back from a 3 day weather-person conference with a sack-full of fun and fantastic weather gadgets. Whilst he is busy in the corner assembling them all, I decided to turn on the telly to get the weather report for him. It’ll be partially cloudy this weekend with temperatures in the low 30s. Tuesday and Wednesday is expected to be redonculously hot with almost 40 degree weather so I’d recommend you hide yourself in a chest freezer or at the bottom of a large body of water.

Whatever you do this weekend, we hope you go out and Enjoy Perth!

- love, hugs and kisses, your EnjoyPerth! pal grum.

What’s on this week in Perth?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Hello there people with eyeballs, glad to see you’re human. Top work n’ all.

Did you know that the weekend happens after Friday? Some people even count Friday night part of the weekend. Those people are weird. On the topic of weekends, there is this thing happening in the city that rhymes with weekends and its called the West End Festival. Its to celebrate the awesome west end of Perth which apparently is a lot cooler than the east end of Perth. If you’d like to go see models, DJ competitions, fashion parades and other fun stuff, go west. Life is peaceful there. Go west, in the open air. Go west, where the skies are blue. Go west, this is what we’re gonna do.

This Sunday is Valentines Day. Apparently. Thats what people tell me. I dunno. Aside from being the day where I cry myself to sleep alone in my empty dark office, its also the day when the Good Vibrations festival hits Perth! The EnjoyPerth! crew will be there on Sunday with our cameras, glow sticks and shirts off – so if you’re there, why not join us in all the debaucherous fun! No really, we promise there will be debauchery. It’ll be debaucherific!  I have no idea what that word means, I just heard some business man use it in a sentence the other day and it sounded cool.

Hey, see that picture at the top of this post? Pretty cool innit? Well, if you’d like your picture featured on this blog and have millions of people around the world admire it, just contact that grum guy, give him a cool pic that seems “Perthy” and he might just stick it on this very blog! Then again, he might laugh and point at at before throwing it into the trash. Why am I talking in third person again? He has no idea.

With the boss back in the country, Jamie (resident chainsaw juggler, beekeeper and meteorologist) has decided to step up his game and give us a proper weather report. According to Jamie, weather will be happening this weekend followed by a strong possibility of weather during the week. The weather itself will also have a bunch of numbers that you’ll find interesting, particularly the numbers 32, 33, 37, 32, 31, 34 and 35. If you’re trapped on a tropical island with a smoke monster chasing you, you might find these numbers interesting: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42. Although if you were, how the heck are you getting internet access out there? Go find my friend Benjamin Linus, he’s a swell bloke.

Whatever you do this weekend, we hope you go out and Enjoy Perth!

- love, hugs and kisses, your EnjoyPerth! pal grum.

What’s on this week in Perth?

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Oh hi there!

Didn’t see you there. Which is kinda understandable. What are you doing hiding in that pot plant? You really should get out of that. Jamie often pours his 4 day-old coffee into that thing. It gets kinda stinky in there. Oh sorry, I didn’t realise that smell was you. Um, yeah. Bygones.

Today marks the opening of a little thing called Perth Festival. It runs between today and the end of the month and promises a mother-truckin’ massive schedule of events. No really, the amount of entertainment scheduled this year is SO big that I’m fairly sure that your mum on a truck will be part of one of the shows. She’ll be up there, driving the truck as a homage to all the mothers in the trucking industry. She’s such a lovely woman too. Cooks a great breakfast and she smells like roses. For more information, hit up the EP! event page.

Oh my! Did you know that the Beach Boys are in Perth right now? Well, I didn’t and I actually can’t confirm if they are actually here yet. But they will be this Sunday at Kings Park! Those good vibrationing, California girling, surfin’ in the USAn’, kokomoing guys are back (yet again), doing their thing on a stage in a park of royalty! Daryl Braithwaite will be there as a support act – you remember that blonke dontcha? That’s the way it’s gonna be little darlin’, we’ll be riding on the horses yeah yeah, Way up in the sky little darli-in’, and if you fall I’ll pick you up, pick you up… Oh right, I was supposed to be promoting the Beach Boys here, not Daryl. But Daryl is awesome so go see the show just for him. Do it. Now. Details at the EP! event page.

Gary, our ex-social media manager mentioned the other day that we should create a Facebook page. An hour after realising he didn’t mean we should collect people’s faces and stick them in a scrapbook, I found myself on hold to the police waiting to explain the whole misunderstanding. As I sat there listening to the monotonous on-hold music, I jumped online and punched in facebook.com/enjoyperth into the browser – Lo and behold, we already had a Facebook page! I hung up because it was quite obvious that Gary wasn’t doing his job probably (I assume he was stealing office stationary or something) and added myself as a fan to the page. You should too because that’s what all the cool kids are doing! Never know, you might win something…

Jamie (resident EnjoyPerth! undertaker, hermeneuticist and meteorologist) tells us that the weekend might be a bit moist however it’ll warm up to a delightful 30 degrees for the rest of the week. He also advises us that you should take care when trying to prove to your mates that you can fit 4 pool balls in your mouth. Because it can’t be done. But try it anyway if you ever want to know what its like to have your jaw surgically removed from your face.

Whatever you do this weekend, we hope you go out and Enjoy Perth!

- love, hugs and kisses, your EnjoyPerth! pal grum.

What’s on this week in Perth?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Good afternoon penguins and welcome to this week’s edition of EnjoyPerth!’s super duper mega hyper awesome blog post of spectacular giggles and pink flamingos!

Erk, before the grammar and punctuation police jump down my throat, I have absolutely no idea how to give EnjoyPerth! ownership in a sentence given that the exclamation mark is part of the trademark. I could always just type “EnjoyPerth” without the proper formatting and hope that the boss doesn’t notice but she has eyes on the back of her head, on the soles of her feet and on the insides of her knee-pits. Yeah, she’s kinda freaky…

This Saturday will host the Hope from Ashes Toodyay Benefit Concert, all the way up there in Toodyay. Hey, its only 90 minutes drive and ALL PROCEEDS will be going to the Toodyay Bushfire Appeal so its a worthy cause. Hey, even if you can’t go why not just donate a couple of dollars towards the cause or even just buy a ticket and give it to someone who loves to go on road trips. Its promising to be a great day and when was the last time you went out to enjoy Toodyay? Hmmm, we should really trademark the name EnjoyTooday!

Hey GUESS WHAT?! The BIG DAY OUT is on this Sunday and the crew from EnjoyPerth! will be running around with cameras and goofy looks on their faces trying to take photos of stuff and things! So if you see one of us, pull us aside and pose sexily for the camera. If your picture gets published on the website, you can tell your mum about it cos we’re a big deal and whatnot. Talking of BDO stuff, if you get out of your seat right NOW and rush off to 78 Records, Mills Records, Planet Video or Cellarbrations Garratt & Guildford, you may be able to buy one of a small number of second release tickets. Apparently. I dunno, friend of the site (as well as one of our competitors) mentioned it on their blog and we’re yet to get confirmation from the promoters so we’ll go along with it for now.

Some of you have noticed that we seem to be selling tickets now. Yes, we are. Well, to tell you the truth our pals at Posse and Moshtix are doing the selling part; we just happen to get a couple of shillings for every ticket sold via EP! All the money raised from ticket sales is going to the “keep the EP! beer fridge stocked fund” so if you ever find yourself wanting to by a ticket from Moshtix, check out this site first to help aid in our liquid refreshment dependancy.

According to Jamie (resident EnjoyPerth! coffee cup smasher, erotic dancer and meteorologist, Friday is gonna be really really hot and the rest of the week is kinda nice. We like kinda nice. I bet you do too.

Whatever you do this weekend, we hope you go out and Enjoy Perth!

- love, hugs and kisses, your EnjoyPerth! pal grum.

What’s on this week in Perth?

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Holey moley moo!

Wait, did I just make up a saying? Or do people say holly moley moo? I hope people don’t say it cos its kinda daggy. Not exactly too sure why I said it to begin with. It just felt right at the time. Now I just feel dirty.

So, the weekend has landed and Perth finally won’t be melting in mid-40 degree temperatures like it has been – we hope. I don’t know about you but we think that this weekend is the perfect weekend to go out with your mates, have a couple of bevvies and get some of that Perth culture shoved down your throat. In the best possible way of course.

Tonight is going to be super duper fun with Grandmaster Flash at Capitol and DJ Yoda at Villa. With all those phat beatz blastin’, how can anyone be able to contain themselves? Well, I hope you’re able to figure that out as I’ll be at these events and I sincerely hope you don’t un-contain yourself next to me on the dance floor. If you decide to, make sure you don’t dirty my shoes. Details at the EP! event pages here and here.

If jumping around the place seems a wee bit too strenuous, how does a free screening of Wall-E sound? Those delightful people at the Northbridge Piazza will be showing Wall-E followed by The Seed Hunter on the big screen this Saturday. For those who are wondering, Seed Hunter is a docco, not an adult film. Sickos. Details at the EP! event page.

If you’re finding it difficult to use the internet to read wonderful websites such as EnjoyPerth! and whatnot, perhaps you’d like it if we came to you through to you via your ear holes. Well, yours truly will be on the wireless doing my gig guide thang next to Jenny Seaton on Curtin FM every Monday sometime between 2PM and 3PM. Unless they get bored of me. Then I won’t be on the wireless. People will then be sad.

Jamie (resident EnjoyPerth! street sweeper, helicopter pilot and meteorologist) tells me that not only is it going to be mild during the start of the week followed by a hotter end to the week, he also tells me that he wants a Big Mac meal and to make sure there are extra pickles. I’m not too sure how that influences the weather but I’m going to humour him anyway this week and buy him his stupid meal. Never know, he might be able to make it show. Thats what meteorologists do, right?

Whatever you do this weekend, we hope you go out and Enjoy Perth!

- love, hugs and kisses, your EnjoyPerth! pal grum.

20100110_192809_IMG_8323a

Ahoy there me hearties!

No, don’t ask me why I decided to start off this post in a piratey form, I just did. Deal with it. Okay? Good.

The staff here at EnjoyPerth! are a bit fragile this week after a taxing 3 days down south at the Southbound Music Festival. Tents were erected, music was listened to, greasy food was consumed and necks and shoulders were burnt to a crisp. It was a glorious weekend and a write-up as well as a bucket load of photos will be uploaded later this afternoon as soon as our IT guys finish bashing the router so we can finish uploading the content. As an added incentive for you to keep an eye out for that post, we’ll tell you how you could score yourself a ticket to the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival later this year.

Feel like a good ol’ relaxy Fremantley music thingy? Courtyard Music at Fremantle Arts Centre squeezes the best of a Fremantle summer into a Sunday afternoon. Relax at this free outdoor community event to some of the finest live music WA has to offer. Couryard Music continues every Sunday from October – March, with cruisey afternoons of free tunes from 2pm. Details at the EP! event page.

If that doesn’t float your boat, perhaps you like collecting boats and other things? Why not add to your collection, or start a new one, at the inaugural Victoria Park Collectors’ Fair. This fair will showcase something for everyone, including items of china, glass, pottery, dolls, linen, books, jewellery and a large range of your favourite collectables. Details at the EP! event page.

Jamie, (resident EnjoyPerth! sand sculptor, canine make-up artist and meteorologist) tells us that its gonna be hot. Schtankin’ hot. His words, not mine. So here at EnjoyPerth!, we’d like to remind you that you should always slip, slop and slap whenever you’re thinking about going outside. Scratch that, you should slip, slop and slap right now, regardless of the fact that you’re going outside or not. Better to be safe than sorry. So go on, squirt on some sunscreen before you wander off to grab yourself that bagel. Do it. Now.

Whatever you do this weekend, we hope you go out and Enjoy Perth!

- love, hugs and kisses, your EnjoyPerth! pal grum.
