Australia Day is coming around again quick, and this year it’s on a Saturday, and we get a public holiday on Monday 28 January!
Here’s a summary of events happening, starting with some of the biggest ones! There’s also some concerts and musicals on, see the bottom of this list.
City of Perth – Skyworks / City of South Perth
Lotterywest Skyworks is the main event, with a huge fireworks spectacular from 9pm. From about 4pm the water regatta and air show starts.
A “Survival Concert” is held at the Supreme Court Gardens from 1pm to 7.30pm, celebrating traditional and contemporary Indigenous culture. Free entry.
From 2.3pm Barrack Square is a Family Entertainment Area (fully enclosed, $14 entry, book!)
From 3pm there are Youth Activities & Games at Sir James Mitchell Park in South Perth and from 4pm there’s the Stay Pumped Zone at Langley Park, where there’ll be plenty of activities and entertainment including Perth bands Red Jezebel and New Rules for Boats.
City of Fremantle
For the second year there will be fireworks in Fremantle. From 8.45pm at the Fishing Boat Harbour. There will be three firing locations this year, so it should be a bigger spectacle! Good places to view the fireworks are around Fishing Boat Harbour, at Monument Hill, Esplanade Reserve, South Beach and the Round House.
There is a citizenship ceremony at Fremantle Arts Centre from 10am, and following that activities and music for family fun. Free entry, gold coin donation for sausage sizzle.
City of Armadale
From 5.30pm there will be entertainment and amusement rides in Minnawarra Park, and fireworks from 8.45pm.
Town of Bassendean
From 6pm there will be a concert, broadcasting by 98.5 Sonshine FM, ceremonies and fireworks at Ashfield Reserve.
Mindarie Marina (City of Wanneroo)
Children’s entertainment, live bands, market stalls and fireworks from midday to late.
(Please note there are no fireworks at Sorrento Quay/Hillarys this year!)

Town of Cambridge
From 8.30am to midday there will be ceremonies, entertainment, activities and a sausage sizzle at Perry Lakes Reserve in Floreat.
City of Canning
Breakfast by the Lions Club, music by the City of Canning Brass Band, entertainment and model ships on the lake, at the Civic Centre, Albany Highway Cannington. And a’Breakfast in the Park’ at Shelley Foreshore.
City of Gosnells
Australia Day Big Breakfast and entertainment at Pioneer Park Amphitheatre.
City of Mandurah
Breakfast, live entertainment, ceremonies, Mandjar Markets, Beach Party etc. (but no fireworks)

Outdoor cinema at Luna Cinemas (Moonlight Cinema in King’s Park and Movies at Burswood closed)

Keating!, the award winning musical, comes to Perth and will be performed from Wednesday 9 January to Sunday 3 February 2008 at the Regal Theatre in Subiaco.
