Fremantle Heritage Festival 07

The Fremantle Heritage Festival is on again from 27 May to 4 June 2007!

So it kicks of again tomorrow, Sunday (today if you’re an email subscriber) with the FREE official opening festival at King’s Square and Fremantle Town Hall (in the centre of Fremantle). There will be many different cultures participating, with ethnic arts and crafts, demonstrations, traditional story telling, performances of national music and dance and more!
It’s all happening from 11am to 5pm, Sunday 27 May 2007.

There are also many other activities already happening tomorrow and then throughout the week involving music, awards, many workshops, exhibitions, guided walks and more. Especially Sunday 3 June there’s heaps happening!

Following the critical praise for his acclaimed 32nd studio album, Modern Times, sentiment to which he has become so rightfully accustomed, Dylan has a growing popular resurgence that deftly crosses each and every generation.

Bob Dylan will be performing with his band, and support by The Frames (from Ireland).

Taste of Chaos – The Used, Rise Against, Aiden etc

The Rockstar Taste of Chaos Tour returns to Australia in October 2007.

The Used, Rise Against, Aiden, The Bled, Gallows and Drop Dead, Gorgeous will perform at Burswood Dome on Friday 19 October 2007.

The Battle of The Bands on the local stage is one of the many highlights of RTOC. The local stage provides home-grown talent with the opportunity to compete against fellow up and coming bands for a chance to showcase their music to thousands. The popular specialist stalls, featuring offers, games, signings, prizes and promotions will also return this year, once again ensuring that the RTOC experience is not just a concert for fans, but a major music event.

It’s all ages, doors open at 5.30pm. I think it will finish at around 10pm, I’ll let you know when I know for sure.

Tickets go on sale Monday 28 May from Ticketek and pre-sale tickets from Frontier from 23 May.

Tickets are $75.20 for the standing areas (so in the middle) and $64.20 for reserved (so seated around the sides and back).

Gotye (Wally De Backer) made it into the Triple J Hottest 100 with his song Hearts A Mess at No 8 and and has now been nominated for the APRA Song of the Year.

Dalai Lama – free forum and talk

Dalai LamaHis Holiness the Dalai Lama, Nobel Peace Laureate, will be in Perth on 6 June 2007 to give free talks at Burswood Dome about issues central to everyday life and our future – like conservation, conflict resolution, and finding meaning and contentment.

9.30am – 12 Noon
Free Public Event: “Spirituality & Sustainability Forum”
Buddhism, the Environment & Spirituality
(This event is non ticketed, get there very early!)
Doors open at 8.30am.

The Spirituality & Sustainability Forum is in partnership with the Australian Conservation Foundation and serves to encourage greater awareness and understanding of our responsibilities and interconnectedness with nature. The event will be hosted by Jamie Durie and there will be prominent guest speakers announced soon.

The War of The Worlds – 8 Sept

War of the WorldsThe War of The Worlds is coming to Perth…. in musical theatre and multimedia form!

Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of The Worlds, Live on Stage! is landing in Burswood Dome, Perth on Saturday 8 September 2007.

Set in HG Wells Victorian England, Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of The Worlds brilliantly portrays the tale of Martians invading Earth and their terrifying trail of destruction. The stellar cast, from England, includes Justin Hayward and Chris Thompson, both re-creating their roles from the original album and the recent sell-out UK tour. They will be joined on-stage by Australia’s three-time MTV Best Male Artist of The Year Shannon Noll, plus the wonderful talents of Rachael Beck and Michael Falzon.

Tickets on sale from 21 May at 9am from Ticketek (presale from 16 May). Group discounts are available for groups 8+.

Adam Hills – this weekend

Adam Hills Comedian Adam Hills (from Spicks and Specks, the Logies, and much more) is performing his show ‘Joymonger’ in Perth this Friday and Saturday, 11 and 12 May 2007, two shows each night.

Put simply, Joymonger is an hour of what Adam Hills does best – uplifting stand up comedy, interspersed with audience chat and moments of improvised joy. In his most recent Edinburgh run, Adam conducted a gay wedding for two audience members, held an impromptu job interview for another member of the crowd, and became a godfather to a three month old baby in the front row.

Tickets through BOCS are $38.00. Only single seats available.

Shows are on at 7.30pm and 9.30pm at the Octagon Theatre at UWA in Nedlands.
