What’s on in Perth – 12 to 18 March 2007

My weekly summary with the highlights of what’s on in Perth, Western Australia, this week; Monday 12 to Sunday 18 March 2007.

Many of the events below are free, some are under $20 and others you will need to book tickets, so please always click on the links to see more information.

Festivals etc (mainly free)

Harmony Week is on from 15 to 21 March with a lot of free events, including CONNECT @ Hyde Park on Sunday and many others, including some below.

It’s WA Bike Week from 9 to 18 March 2007. There’s a free breakfast in South Perth on Wednesday morning and in Fremantle on Thursday morning. Gravel Rash on Sunday in Kalamunda (bike rides and lunch).

Sculptures By the Sea at Cottesloe Beach from 8 to 18 March 2007.

South Perth Fiesta from 17 March with a free Wendy Mathews concert on Saturday night.

Crab Fest Mandurah on 17 and 18 March 2007

St Patricks Day – Saturday 17 March 07 – various events
Multicultural Food Festival in Eden HIll on Saturday 17 March.

City Food and Wine Month – special offers and events – Feast Perth in Victoria Gardens in East Perth on Sunday from 11am.

Coogee Beach Festival on Sunday 18 March 2007.

Sustainable Lifestyle Festival held at Jubilee Park in City Beach on Sunday from 2pm.

Indian Food and Cultural Fair at the Esplanade in Fremantle on Sunday from 11am to 4pm.

Performing Arts:

Dave Hughes at the Regal Theatre on 16 and 17 March 07 (sold out)

Weird Al Yankovic at Burswood Theatre, 17 March 2007

Henry V opens at UWA’s iconic New Fortune Theatre on 9 March and is on till 24 March.

The Laramie Project by Black Swan Theatre Company is on at PICA from 16 March to 5 April.

Circus Joseph Ashton – Midland from 23 February to 18 March 2007

The Impact World Tour comes to Perth with shows all over the metro area in March, and all free (it’s sponsored by local businesses, individuals and churches), sharing a positive message of hope and destiny.

It’s on at the Don – two week performing arts festival at The Don in Thornlie.

Ralph McTell in Concert at Fly By Night on 15 March 07

Geoffrey Lancaster and the Juniper Chamber Orchestra perform at the Government House Ballroom on Thursday evening.

Jazz in the Park in Stirk Park, Kalamunda from 6pm on Thursdays

Arrested Development at Metro City on 16 March 2007

RTRFM launches their new programs Down Underground and Pocket Disco at The Bakery on Friday night.

The Angels perform at the Civic Hotel in Inglewood on Friday and The Leopold in Bicton on Saturday night.

Ministry Of Sound Clubbers Guide to 2007 is happening at Club Capitol on Friday night with Kid Kenobi, Goodwill and Dirty South.

Mundaring Weir Hotel Festival – Saffire (Australian Guitar Quartet) – 17 March 07

South Perth Fiesta opening concert with Wendy Mathews, Blue Celts etc (free) – Saturday 17 March 07

Karnivool play at Crabfest on Saturday night. (I saw this on their own myspace, no where else))

Shamrock City - free family St Patricks Day event at Northbridge Piazza on Saturday night.

Oriental Dance concert “RAPTURE” at Subiaco Theatre Centre on Saturday evening.

Celtic Strings at Kulcha for St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday evening.

Daryl Braithwaite performs at the Oxford in Leederville on Sunday evening (and next Wednesday in Woodvale).

A City of Armadale concert in the park is held at Minnawarra Park on Sunday evening.

Free music every Sunday: Freo Arts Centre courtyard music, and Sunset@Subi in Subiaco.

Other:

Iranian Short Films presentation with acclaimed filmmakers Shirin and Reza at Kulcha in Fremantle, in the lead up to the Persian New Year (Norooz).

There’s a Circus Festival happening in Margaret River (so down south) this weekend.

Freo to Rottnest Big Splash Swim & Paddle is on Saturday.

The Big Veg Out – Cruelty Free Lifestyle Festival at Fremantle Arts Centre on Saturday from noon.

The Freeway Bike Hike for Asthma is happening on Sunday 18 March 2007.

Auto One Classic Car Show 2007 and Classic Bike show at Whiteman Park on Sunday.

Another Do or DIY flashmob will be held on Sunday in Fremantle.

Centenary Celebrations are held as part of the City of Gosnells’ People in Parks events, with a Vintage Car Display, Oz big band, entertainment, children’s activities and heritage and community displays in John Okey Davis Park in Gosnells.

Markets:

The Fremantle Village Art Markets are held from 10am to 5.30pm every Thursday until the end of April. This week the markets will be part of Harmony Week celebrations.
Joondalup Sunset Markets are held from 6pm on Friday. From 7pm there is free music on Reid Promenade.
The Mandjar Markets are held at the Waterfront in Mandurah every Sunday from 1 to 5pm until the end of April.
