St Patrick’s Day – 17 March 2007

Monday, March 12th, 2007

This year St Patrick’s Day falls on Saturday 17 March 2007.

The main events in Perth that I know of are Shamrock City in Northbridge, and celebrations at Burswood. Other than below, I’m sure many pubs will celebrate this day in their own ways, for example, Murphy’s Lore are playing at The Foundry in Cannington. The Shed in Northbridge has celebrations all day.

The City of Perth has organised the event ‘Shamrock City‘ from 2 to 7pm at Northbridge Piazza on the corner of James and Lake Streets.

Celebrate Saint Patrick’s day with the family at Shamrock City – an alcohol free event. Enjoy the sounds of The Clan Band and Hog Hill Boys perform traditional and modern Irish music. Join in on an Irish jig and enjoy the free children’s activities throughout the day. Bring a picnic rug along and indulge in the many culinary delights available in Northbridge. And don’t forget to look out for those illusive leprechauns!

See the City of Perth website for more info, this event is part of City Food and Wine Month.

Burswood says it has Perth’s biggest St Patrick’s Day celebration, with free entry, live entertainment, Irish dancers, prizes etc. From 10am at Paddy Hannan’s and from 5pm open air at Paddy’s Paddock in the Piazza.

See the Burswood website for more details.

The free South Perth Fiesta Opening Concert is on Saturday evening, and part of the entertainment is the Blue Celts (the main act is Wendy Mathews), from 5pm.

Celtic Strings perform authentic traditional Irish jigs, reels, airs and songs, from 8pm at Kulcha in Fremantle. $12 at the door, $10 presale.

St Patrick’s Day at Ascot
Irish Breakfast, entertainment, beer etc. See Ascot website.

The Blue Celts – Sunday 18 March 2007, 2 – 4pm

Enjoy St Patrick’s Day after with swinging jigs and reels, jumping country blues and soulful traditional ballads at the weekly free Fremantle Arts Centre Courtyard Music.

See The Guide website for a list of pubs in Perth that have something organised for St Patrick’s Day (click through on the pub names to see what)
