What’s on in Perth – 29 Jan to 4 Feb 07

My weekly summary with the highlights of what’s on in Perth, Western Australia, this week; Monday 29 January to Sunday 4 February 2007.
Some things are free, some cost money and some you will need to book tickets for. Click on the links for more info.

Music

Jazz in the Park with the Kalamunda Youth Swing Band in Stirk Park, Kalamunda from 6 to 8pm on Thursday (every Thursday till end of March).

Jazz on the Rocks is held at Quarry Amphitheatre in City Beach on Friday 2 February.

A Blues & Roots Festival is held at Kwinana Arts Centre on Friday 2 February, and features Blue Shaddy, Mark Vine & The Mix and others.

James Reyne performs at the Leopold Hotel in Bicton on Friday night.

The free, all ages Boo-Yah Festival is held e-Central TAFE and City Farm in East Perth on Saturday from 1 to 6pm, featuring music, workshops, climbing wall, dance workshops etc etc. (it’s on next week too)

The Ten Tenors perform for ‘An Evening on the Green’ at King’s Park on Saturday night, with Grace Night and Bojeme.

Tetrafide Percussion (they’re great, I’ve seen them!) perform at the New Theatre at ECU Mt Lawley on Saturday night, and are recording a dvd at the same time.

Whiteman Park, ’summer of bush dances‘, with the Mucky Duck Band on Saturday from 7.30pm at Mussel Pool West. Entry is $8 for adults and $6 for children, bring your own chairs/picnic rugs and eskies, and the kiosk is open. Free tram ride included.

DJ/Producer Diplo is at The Bakery in Northbridge on Saturday night.

The Big Day Out is happening in Claremont on Sunday! It has sold out!

Another ‘Evening on the Green‘ is happening at King’s Park on Sunday, when Tim Finn, Pete Murray and others perform.

Swing the night away with an LA style swing band at Parnham Reserve in Carisle on Sunday evening, a free event presented by the Town of Vic Park.
The City of Gosnells present a free family event, ‘People in Park’ with music and entertainment on Sunday evening from 5pm at Wilkinson Homestead.
The Town of Vincent hold a free summer concert in Braithwaite Park, Mt Hawthorn with Double Entendre from 5.30 to 7.30pm on Sunday 4 February.
The City of Nedlands has a free summer concert in Lawler Park in Floreat from 5.30 to 7pm on Sunday.
The City of Melville has a free summer concert in the Limestone Amphitheatre in Booragoon from 5.30pm.
The Sunset@Subi concert is held from 6pm in JH Abrahams Reserve in Crawley with the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra.

Musica Viva Menage – Arundo is an event held in the Art Gallery of WA Courtyard from 6pm on Sunday 4 February.

Theatre / Comedy / Film / Circus

Raw Comedy is on at the Comedy Lounge at Hyde Park Hotel on Thursday, searching for WA talent for the Melbourne Comedy Festival.

Shakespeare in the Park, a Comedy of Errors is on at King’s Park till 10 February and performed by Deckchair Theatre.

The Fremantle Outdoor Film Festival is held from 1 to 24 February 2007 in Princess May Park. Check out all the other outdoor cinemas at this post!

Circus Joseph Ashton is in Mandurah till 10 February 2007.

Deathtrap, by Weeping Spoon Productions is performed at PICA till 3 February.

The Lady Oi, by Black Swan Theatre Company is performed at Playhouse Theatre from 2 to 17 February.

Other (sport, markets…)

The Vodafone Beach Volleyball Tour is rolling into Perth, and is at Scarborough Beach from 2 to 4 February.

The next Do or DIY Perth flashmob is held from 11.30am in the Perth CBD.

Farmarama is a free family fun afternoon held at Peridot Park in Wanneroo, organised by the City of Wanneroo, from 3 to 7pm on Saturday.

The Fremantle Village Art Markets are held from 10am to 5.30pm every Thursday until the end of April. From 12.30 a free gig by ‘gyprockers’ Double Entendre.
Joondalup Sunset Markets are held from 6pm on Friday. From 7pm there is free music on Reid Promenade, this week ‘Songs From the Mountain’, in the style of movies ‘O
Brother, Where Art Thou?’ and ‘Walk the Line’.
The Mandjar Markets are held at the Waterfront in Mandurah every Sunday from 1 to 5pm until the end of April.
