What’s on in Perth – 22 to 28 January 2007

My weekly summary with the highlights of what’s on in Perth, Western Australia, this week; Monday 22 to Sunday 28 January 2007. Also see the post for all big events in Perth in January and my Australia Day 2007 post.

Music

The ‘Boys of Summer Tour’ rolls into town on Wednesday (24 Jan) for an all ages gig from 4pm and an 18+ gig from 8pm at the Rosemount. This includes the bands I Killed The Prom Queen, Misery Signals (USA) and Spitalfield(USA).

Celebrate Australia Day Eve ‘on the hill’ at Tumbulgum Farm in Byford (past Armadale) with Hell’s Bells (A Salute to AC/DC), Vamp, Knuckleduster, Anacrisis and iCHORA. Details here

Dallas Crane perform at the Amplifier Bar on Thursday (Australia Day eve, 25 Jan), with Airbourne and The Vandas supporting and at Mojos on Sunday.

DJ Dave Seaman performs a 4 hour set at Ambar on Thursday, Australia Day eve.

The Festifull of Funk is held in Dunsborough on Australia Day.

Neko Case performs at the Fly By Night in Freo on Australia Day.

The free, all ages Boo-Yah Festival is held e-Central TAFE and City Farm in East Perth on Saturday from 13 to 6pm, featuring music, workshops, climbing wall, dance workshops etc etc.
Renee Geyer will perform for the City of Wanneroo’s second summer concert on Saturday night, held at Charnwood Reserve in Two Rocks. It’s free, and there’s children’s activities from 4pm, and the concert from 7pm.

Whiteman Park ‘summer of bush dances‘, with Chain Reaction (rock n roll) on Saturday from 7.30pm at Mussel Pool West. Entry is $8 for adults and $6 for children and includes a free train ride. Bring your own chairs/picnic rugs and eskies, and the kiosk is open.

The first free City of Gosnells summer concert this season is held at Wilkinson Homestead in Gosnells on Sunday evening, Chair Reaction perform classic rock n roll from the 50’s to 80’s.

Free music every Sunday: Freo Arts Centre courtyard music, and Sunset@Subi in Subiaco (this week Irish gig).

Another Evening on the Green is held, this time at Sandalford Wines on Sunday, with The Pretenders, Paul Kelly, The Kill Devil Hills and The Church.

A new weekly event presented by the Funk Club and Fundamental Empire: Summer Bowling at the Mt Lawley Bowling Club from 2 to 8pm every Sunday. Featuring genuine 1972 beer prices, funky tunes, lawn bowls, bbq, ice cream & more….

Roger Sanchez performs at Captiol on Sunday night.

Theatre / Comedy / Film / Circus

Raw Comedy is on at the Comedy Lounge at Hyde Park Hotel on Thursday, searching for WA talent for the Melbourne Comedy Festival.

Shakespeare in the Park, a Comedy of Errors is on at King’s Park till 10 February and performed by Deckchair Theatre.

Circus Joseph Ashton is located in Mandurah from 19 January to 10 February 2007.

Deathtrap, by Weeping Spoon Productions is performed at PICA from 22 January til 3 February 2007.

Tick Tock Talent Co. celebrate their 10th year anniversary with a spectacular featuring Jazz, tap, classical, singing, acrobatics and hip hop at the Perth Concert Hall on Saturday 27 January.

The City of Cockburn hold a free summer concert featuring a tribute to Queen and ABBA at Dixon Reserve in Hamilton Hill on Saturday night.

The Outdoor Cinema season is in full swing, with Lotterywest Festival Films at Somerville, UWA and Joondalup Pines, Camelot Outdoor Cinema in Mosman park, Moonlight Cinema in King’s Park, Movies by Burswood in Burswood Park, and Luna Outdoor in Leederville!

Other (sport, markets…)

The XXXX GOLD Beach Cricket Tournament is held at Scarborough Beach from 27 to 28 January, but all tickets have been given away, and the game won’t be visible to people who didn’t get tickets (you can watch it on tv though…).

The Fremantle Village Art Markets are held from 10am to 5.30pm every Thursday until the end of April. From 12.30 a free gig by ‘gyprockers’ Double Entendre.
Joondalup Sunset Markets are held from 6pm on Friday. From 7pm there is free music on Reid Promenade, this week ‘Songs From the Mountain’, in the style of movies ‘O
Brother, Where Art Thou?’ and ‘Walk the Line’.
The Mandjar Markets are held at the Waterfront in Mandurah every Sunday from 1 to 5pm until the end of April.
