Summersun Festival - 10 to 18 Feb 2007

The annual Summersun Festival is all about rock ‘n’ roll music and dancing, hot rods and other American and classic cars!
It’s held from Saturday 10 February to Sunday 18 February 2007 all over Perth, including Burswood, Rockingham, Northbridge, Mt Lawley and Fremantle.

Following is an overview, but for full details of the events and booking information, see the Summersun Festival website. Some events are free, including the street party in Northbridge on Sunday 11th and the Beach Party and Finale in Rockingham on the 17th and 18th.

Saturday, 10th February
27th Big Al’s Poker Run – Burswood to Fremantle
Hot rods and other cars, bbq, picnic and dancing at East Fremantle Oval

Sunday, 11th February
Summersun Official Opening Ceremony – Northbridge – 6 to 10pm
A major street party with dancing in the streets, live music, free dance lessons and a glittering display of hot rods and custom cars.

Monday, 12th February
Movie Stars at the Astor – Mount Lawley
Exclusive screening of the 1956 classic ’Don’t Knock The Rock’ featuring Little Richard, Bill Hayley & The Comets and Jimmy Ballard and The Treniers.

Tuesday, 13th February
Twilight Cruise to Rockingham, from Joondalup and Mandurah and music at the Rockingham Hotel afterwards

Wednesday, 14th February
Valentines Dinner Dance & Fashion Parade – Embassy Ballroom, Carlisle

Thursday, 15th February
Blast From The Past – Fremantle Prison
A traditional festival highlight. Incarcerate yourself with Sydney band The Shuffle Boys for a night of gaol house rock.

Friday, 16th February
Summersun Dance & Competition Final, Embassy Ballroom, Carlisle
The dance event of the Festival and the culmination of the huge social dance competition, which has already started, there’s still some heats and the semi-final to go at Ogdens in Gosnells.

Saturday, 17th February
Nostalgia Drags – Perth Motorplex, Kwinana

Rockingham Beach Party, Churchill Park 10:00am – 10:00pm
Nostalgia markets, dance demonstrations, free dance lessons, live bands inc The Shuffle Boys, Tornado Alleycats and Twist & Shout.

Sunday, 18th February
Summersun Finale, Rockingham, 10:00am – 4:00pm
Nostalgia markets, dance demonstrations, free dance lessons, live bands inc The Shuffle Boys and the Tornado Alleycats, free hot rod show.
