What’s on in Perth – 4 to 10 December 2006

My weekly summary with the highlights of what’s on in Perth, Western Australia this week; Monday 4 to Sunday 10 December 2006. Check out the Event Calendar for more!
Some of these events are free, some are cheap, and some are very expensive! Click on the links for more info.

The Gravity Games h2o are on from Thursday to Sunday at McCallum Park in Vic Park. The Gravity G-fest concert is on Thursday night, and there’s other free gigs on the other nights.

It’s International Volunteer Day on Tuesday and there’s an awareness event at Forrest Place from 12 to 2pm.

The first Christmas Concert as part of the City of Perth Christmas Festival is on Friday night from 7pm at Forrest Place, and the Christmas Pageant is on Saturday night from 8.30pm.

The weekly Fremantle Village Arts Markets are held every Thursday throughout summer, and the Joondalup Sunset Markets are held every Friday evening.

The Harvest Festival will be held at City Farm in East Perth on Saturday from 8am to 4pm and will feature performers Stingray, Akwaaba, 33 Trees, Double Entendre, Warrdong and Junkadelic, kids entertainment, food, and the weekly Organic Growers Markets. Free family event.

Music

Kylie is in town! There’s still a handful of mostly single tickets available, see BOCS. Shows on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at Burswood Dome.

Rise Against are performing at Club Capitol on Tuesday night. Ticktets are $41 from BOCS.

Gravity G-fest, with Aiden, Kisschasy, Gyroscope etc is on Thursday night, as part of Gravity Games h2o. Tickets $46.40 from BOCS. There’s other free gigs on the other afternoon/evenings.

The Mess Hall are performing at Mojos Bar on Thursday night and The Bakery on Friday night. Tickets around $16 from Heatseeker.

Weekend:
The free all ages Scorcha Youth Music Festival, featuring Karnivool and others has been organised by the City of Joondalup for Friday afternoon/evening in Central Park, Joondalup.

G3-06 (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and John Petrucci (USA)) perform at Challenge Stadium on Friday night. Tickets from $100 at Ticketmaster

Bob Evans, performs his ARIA Award winning album Suburban Songbooks at the Hyde Park Hotel on Friday night. Tickets around $20 from Heatseeker.

Trial Kennedy perform at Mojos Bar on Friday night, tickets from $12 through Heatseeker.

Australia’s Premier electric Blues/Rock Guitarists, Kevin Borich, Mal Eastick and Phil Emmanuel perform at the Leopold Hotel on Friday and the Civic Hotel on Saturday, tickets are $25 from the venues.

It’s the Funk Club’s Third Anniversary and they’re celebrating it with Fdel live, the House Band, Junkadelic and others on Friday night at the Leederville Hotel. Tickets a bit more than usual, $15, and available at the door and through Heatseeker.

The Closer Organisation presents (PEAK) ROBOT at Bar Open on Friday night.

Deep Roots is happening at City Farm from 8pm with The Kill Devil Hills, The GrooveSmiths, Double Entendre and many more from 8pm, which follows on from the Harvest Festival during the day, which also includes many bands.

The Sensitive New Age Cowpersons are singing their Final Farewell at the Hyde Park Hotel on Saturday 9th and then Clancy’s in Freo on the 13th, 14th and 16th.

The first free Sunset@Subi concert for the summer season is held on Sunday evening in the Theatre Gardens at Subiaco Arts Centre.

Tosh Meets Marley for a night of reggae at the Perth Concert Hall on Sunday night. Tickets from $67 through BOCS. This features 10 original musicians from Bob Marley & The Wailers and Peter Tosh’s band.

WASO, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, is giving a free family concert at Burswood Parklands on Sunday from 7pm. Arrive earlier for pre-event children entertainment.

And there’s lots of free Christmas Carol Concerts being held in local parks, mainly on Sunday night.

Performing Arts / Comedy / Theatre / Circus
Barry Humphries brings Dame Edna back to town with a Vengeance at the Regal Theatre till Sunday 10 December. Tickets range from $60 to $86 and are available through BOCS.

The Blonde, The Brunette and The Vengeful Redhead is a ‘one woman tour de force’ performed by Jacki Weaver who apparently has ’suberb comic talents’, at the Playhouse Theatre until Sunday 10 December. Tickets from about $40 from BOCS.

Mozart’s Magic Flute, by the Australian Opera Studio, is performed at the Maj until Friday. Tickets from BOCS from $30.

Comedian Russel Peters is performing at the Perth Concert Hall on Wednesday, but it sold out quite a while ago.

Comedians Tripod are on their ‘Hey We Don’t Make The Yules’ Christmas Tour and perform at the Fly By Night Club on Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $29 through BOCS.

Other
The Lilac Hill Festival Cricket Match is on Friday and marks the start of the Festival of Cricket the coming weeks. The Tour Match is on Saturday and Sunday, and the Ashes Urn & Howzat! Exhibition opens at WA Museum on Sunday.
