Fremantle Festival - 17 to 26 Nov 06
The annual Fremantle Festival is on from 17 to 26 November 2006, and the theme is ‘Animate’.
There are lots of free events throughout Fremantle that week, but the main event is a huge Street Carnival on the Cappuccino Strip (South Tce) on Sunday 26 November 2006.
It all starts at midday, with street theatre, music, buskers, markets and free family activities.
Get a good spot from 4pm for the Street Parade with more than 1500 participants.
After the parade, from 6 to 9pm is the Bhangra street dance party, which features ’dj’s using Indian classical music with hip-hop, break beat and Bollywood to create mass dancing euphoria’. Wear something colourful to blend right in!
Other big and free events include the opening family concert at King’s Square on Friday 17 November from 6.30pm which will feature music, dance and comedy.
Also, the Wardarnju Aboriginal Cultural Celebration is on Saturday 18 November at the Esplanade Reserve, from 11 to 5pm. There will be a variety of young peoples activities and interactive events with lots of food, arts and craft stalls.
All information at the Fremantle Festival website!
The street carnival/parade/dance party mentioned above happens in the weekend after the Red Bull Air Race weekend. I think it’s time I did a ’What’s on in November’ post, there’s seriously a LOT happening in November, more than the last couple of months in the way of festivals. Stay tuned! (or subscribe ;) )
