Circus Oz is coming to town, and I’m excited!
Circus Oz is often credited as the first contemporary circus; it was founded in 1977 and has been touring nationally and internationally since. All animals featured are 100% human, and there’s usually about 12 of them on stage! It’s ‘a playful theatrical subversion of the idea of ‘circus’.
The Big Top will be at the Esplanade in Perth from 21 February to 5 March 2007, with shows at 7.30pm and/or 1.30pm.
Standard adult ticket prices are $48 or $52, and there are also concession, group, childrens and family tickets available. Tickets will be on sale on 18 November from BOCS.
As post-modern artists we have taken old forms and re-framed them. We shamelessly plunder the traditions of conventional circus and blend them with topical issues, relevant imagery, contemporary music, physical theatre and comedy. At our best we are pirates on the high seas of performance, looting our way through the riches of hundreds of years of convention, specialisation and defined genre.

Later in the year (Aug/Sept), another contemporary circus comes to town: Cirque du Soleil with Varekai.
Oh I’ve just tried to buy tickets to the circus but they are all sold out except for two single seats on the last saturday! Very sad! :( I should have thought about it sooner!
I know!
I looked yesterday, and only Monday afternoon was free! (and we’re going down south for the weekend)
But, my birthday was today, and I just went out for dinner with my friends, and guess what, they got us two tickets for THursday, how cool is that?!!!
Anyway, sorry to rub it in! :(
I’ve been meaning to see them for agggges, quite silly that I wasn’t onto those tickets sooner either!
