Vampire Weekend – 16 May 2010

February 9th, 2010

Indie rockers Vampire Weekend will be performing a series of headline shows across Australia in May in addition to their Groovin’ The Moo performances.

The band initially made their mark on the music scene through their immense online success at a time when the term ‘internet sensation’ was relatively unheard of. After dominating online audiences, they released their hotly anticipated self-titled debut in 2008, cementing their arrival to indie rock. Their sharp, witty lyrics intermingled with African inspired beats guided them toward the forefront of the genre and the band quickly escalated to global fame.

What’s on this week in Perth?

February 5th, 2010

Oh hi there!

Didn’t see you there. Which is kinda understandable. What are you doing hiding in that pot plant? You really should get out of that. Jamie often pours his 4 day-old coffee into that thing. It gets kinda stinky in there. Oh sorry, I didn’t realise that smell was you. Um, yeah. Bygones.

Today marks the opening of a little thing called Perth Festival. It runs between today and the end of the month and promises a mother-truckin’ massive schedule of events. No really, the amount of entertainment scheduled this year is SO big that I’m fairly sure that your mum on a truck will be part of one of the shows. She’ll be up there, driving the truck as a homage to all the mothers in the trucking industry. She’s such a lovely woman too. Cooks a great breakfast and she smells like roses. For more information, hit up the EP! event page.

Oh my! Did you know that the Beach Boys are in Perth right now? Well, I didn’t and I actually can’t confirm if they are actually here yet. But they will be this Sunday at Kings Park! Those good vibrationing, California girling, surfin’ in the USAn’, kokomoing guys are back (yet again), doing their thing on a stage in a park of royalty! Daryl Braithwaite will be there as a support act – you remember that blonke dontcha? That’s the way it’s gonna be little darlin’, we’ll be riding on the horses yeah yeah, Way up in the sky little darli-in’, and if you fall I’ll pick you up, pick you up… Oh right, I was supposed to be promoting the Beach Boys here, not Daryl. But Daryl is awesome so go see the show just for him. Do it. Now. Details at the EP! event page.

Gary, our ex-social media manager mentioned the other day that we should create a Facebook page. An hour after realising he didn’t mean we should collect people’s faces and stick them in a scrapbook, I found myself on hold to the police waiting to explain the whole misunderstanding. As I sat there listening to the monotonous on-hold music, I jumped online and punched in facebook.com/enjoyperth into the browser – Lo and behold, we already had a Facebook page! I hung up because it was quite obvious that Gary wasn’t doing his job probably (I assume he was stealing office stationary or something) and added myself as a fan to the page. You should too because that’s what all the cool kids are doing! Never know, you might win something…

Jamie (resident EnjoyPerth! undertaker, hermeneuticist and meteorologist) tells us that the weekend might be a bit moist however it’ll warm up to a delightful 30 degrees for the rest of the week. He also advises us that you should take care when trying to prove to your mates that you can fit 4 pool balls in your mouth. Because it can’t be done. But try it anyway if you ever want to know what its like to have your jaw surgically removed from your face.

Whatever you do this weekend, we hope you go out and Enjoy Perth!

- love, hugs and kisses, your EnjoyPerth! pal grum.

The Mountain Goats – 18 April 2010

February 3rd, 2010

The Mountain Goats perform at The Rosemount on Sunday 18 April 2010.

Over the course of a dozen albums, & countless singles, EPs & tracks on compilations Darnielle’s wry, intimate & cathartic songwriting has cast it’s spell on a growing legion of devoted fans.
Their latest album, “The Life of the World To Come”, once again sees The Mountain Goats deliver their trademark exposition of skewed characters, vibrant images and perfectly-framed narratives in what Darnielle says are “twelve songs the bible taught me, kind of”.

Even more engaging in the live setting, which sees the band create an intense, reflective & often joyous encounter with their audience, the Mountain Goats return to Australia this April for their fifth tour.

Details at the EnjoyPerth! event page.

Groovin’ The Moo – 15 May 2010

February 2nd, 2010

* Edit – the event HAS been confirmed!

Whilst we here at EnjoyPerth! play nice with media embargoes, it seems some crafty folks out there have broken the street date for the announcement so I figure we’ll jump on the bandwagon.

It is official – touring regional music event, Groovin’ the Moo (GTM) is going from strength to strength, countryside to seaside and expanding far and wide across Australia. Leaping into its sixth year, 2010 will see GTM increase the tour diary tally to include four states and one territory across three huge weekends in May.

Courtesy of a new opportunity in the nation’s capital and a partnership with Sunset Events, GTM will be embracing the communities of Canberra (ACT) and Bunbury (WA) in addition to the already established and welcoming communities of Bendigo (VIC), Townsville (QLD) and Maitland (NSW).

It is expected that tickets will be selling directly though EnjoyPerth! so please keep an eye on this very site to get your moo on!
