Wanneroo Folk Club

This event has passed!
The W.A Folk Federation has agreed to take on organization of a long standing folk club in Western Australia, the Wanneroo Folk Club. After being organized for many years with Judith Shaw and Bob Rummery every second Friday of the month, the W.A Folk Federation has agreed to provide a helping hand. The first Wanneroo Folk Club supported by the W.A Folk Federation is planned for Friday 12th July 2013. The performances start at 8pm at the Dorchester Community Centre, Corner Dorchester & Digdale Street in Warwick and entry is $10 with an $8 concession to W.A Folk Federation members. ‘The WA Folk Federation is delighted to continue the Wanneroo Folk Club tradition in supporting folk musicians in playing to Northern suburbs audiences’, said Keith Anthonisz, Chair of the WA Folk Federation. On Friday 12th July, the WA Folk Federation have Mr. Sour & The Strands and Lauren Arthur from Northam, supported by the John McNair and Keith Anthonisz duet. Lauren Arthur is an emerging singer songwriter from Northam. She is studying with the WA Academy of Performing Arts for contemporary double/electric bass. She has also recorded a demo of original songs and has been performing with regular gigs at Rivers Edge, as well as the Grass Valley Pub and has supported Split Seconds/Sam Carmody. She has also been delighting WA Folk Federation audiences at the Perth Folk and Roots Club at the Oxford Hotel and at other WA Folk Federation events. Mr. Sour & The Strands are Chris Kotchie and Isabelle Lemon who have recently teamed up to form a duo which combines folk, acoustic, trad and original sounds. Combining Guitar, Ukelele, violin, mandolin, vocals and harmonies, the two have previously played together with a mixture of gig settings, including the Mundaring Folk and Blues Club, Augusta lighthouse and the WA Folk Federations Perth Folk and Roots Club at the Oxford Hotel. They now come together under their new alias Mr. Sour & The Strands to form a vibrant new sound which they claim will ‘get your ears a-flapping and your toes a-tapping’. ‘The WA Folk Federation Committee Members John Ralph and Jamie McKinnon will in the longer term be organising the Wanneroo Folk Club and the event planned for Friday 12th July is a one off opportunity for the WA Folk Federation to celebrate the Wanneroo Folk Club’ said Keith Anthonisz. ‘We look forward to seeing some of the regular folk crowd from Wanneroo Folk Club as well as WA Folk Federation members coming along on Friday 12th July’, Keith added. WA Folk Federation also welcomes musicians to play a few songs in between sets at Wanneroo Folk Club. For more information on the WA Folk Federation visit the web site: www.wafolk.org
