Decorate your own paper-craft centurion helmet to take home, or craft a colourful mosaic frame or picture. You can also decorate a Roman battleship and watch it sail across our digitally animated screen!

Want to become a gladiator? Are you keen to risk your life for the opportunity of glory in the combat arena? Join the Grey Company for an insight into the training and techniques you would need to survive the competition in one of ancient Rome’s favourite entertainments, the gladiator games!

Develop your engineering and construction skills with our ancient Roman naval ballista workshop! This crossbow of the high seas was built to sling missiles at enemy ships. Join us in making your own miniature ballista to take home and have fun with our test-firing challenges.

Develop your artistic side with us in this STEAMSub workshop as you make your own Venetian glass mirror mosaic. Learn how to create your artwork with some of the materials and techniques that ancient Romans developed.

Participants will learn how to be SunSmart while learning some fishing basics like casting and fish handling, as well as how to fish sustainably and look after their fishing environment. Fishing rods, sunscreen, bait and equipment will be supplied.

Fenians, Fremantle & Freedom Festival Family Day Sat 6 Jan | 10am – 4pm | Free * In partnership with the Fenians, Fremantle & Freedom Festival, the WA Maritime Museum is proud to support and present children’s activities during the school holidays. Take the Shamrock Trail to find out about 2 famous Irishmen. Build a model boat workshop for 6-12 year olds. What would it be like to be at sea in a sailing ship in the 1860’s? Get the inside story from some of the museum exhibits then build your own model sailing boat and test it.
Workshop times 10-11:30am or 1:30-3pm.

Come and enjoy a free children’s movie Song of the Sea – Ben, a young Irish boy, and his little sister Saoirse, a girl who can turn into a seal, go on an adventure to free the fairies and save the spirit world.
