VR101 Short Filmmaking Course

visor:immersive and NEXT GEN are pleased to announce the VR101 Forum and Short Filmmaking Course, supported through the Screenwest Screen Industry Skills Development Fund.

The VR101 Forum and Short Filmmaking Course will run from March - June 2019. Expressions of interest are open now on the visor:immersive website.

visor:immersive is a Perth-based company looking to embrace the sharp acceleration of virtual and augmented reality technology and combine this with the very best people and custom built facilities to deliver world class immersive experiences.

“visor:immersive and NEXT GEN are proud to be in partnership with Screenwest to explore virtual reality and 360 filmmaking,” said Ian Hale, Creative Director of visor:immersive.

“We are excited to give emerging filmmakers the opportunity to develop new skills and complement existing knowledge with 360 cameras, storytelling, planning and producing supported by experienced practitioners - all to happen here, at the Backlot Perth”.

Jasmine Leivers, Managing Director of NEXT GEN, added, “An important part of filmmaking is seeing audiences experience the work.

“That’s one of the reasons we are excited to present the two short VR 360 films in the inaugural NEXT GEN & visor:immersive VR Short Film Festival at Revelation Film Festival 2019.”

“Projects like The Antarctica Experience and Thalu: Dreamtime Is Now have given us a taste of what is possible with virtual reality and 360-degree filmmaking,” said Screenwest Interim CEO Willie Rowe.

VR101 Short Filmmaking Course
Saturdays, 27 April -­ 29 June 2019
The Backlot Perth, 21 Simpson St, West Perth WA

This six­ session short filmmaking course teaches storytelling techniques and technical skills to enable the production of VR 360 content, with hands­on experience from concept to distribution.

The course references the best of world class immersive experience though VR and 360 filmmaking. The course has local, national and international appeal and features industry guests and technical speakers, ideal for emerging filmmakers or those more experienced and seeking 360 experience.

During the practical aspect of the course, participants will develop short 360 films in groups. Each participant will be credited for their work and able to reference the films for showreels and portfolios.

The films will also be shown as part of NEXT GEN & visor:immersive VR Short Film Festival at Revelation Film Festival 2019.

Up to twenty (20) participants will be selected by application to participate in this fee­based course to be held at the Backlot Perth.

visor:immersive and NEXT GEN welcome everyone to attend the Industry Forum and apply to participate in the course. 

The VR101 Forum is on Saturday, 20th March 2019.

Expressions of interest for both events are open now at www.visorimmersive.com.

Further details about the event will be released in coming months. Applications are due to open in early 2019.

The VR101 Forum and Short Filmmaking Course are supported by Screenwest through the Screen Industry Skills Development Fund. The events will be facilitated by local Producer, Jasmine Leivers of Sandbox Productions and Managing Director of NEXT GEN.
