The Yellow Wallpaper - Blue Room

This event has passed!

Would you survive three months isolated in a room?

Charlotte is a writer… but she cannot write. She is a mother... but she cannot bear to be with her child. She is a wife... but she cannot talk to her husband. Something is wrong.

A ‘rest cure’ is suggested – cutting edge medicine in 1892. Charlotte is to spend her time in the nursery at the top of the stairs. She is not to touch pen, brush or paper. She is alone except for her imagination, her illicit journal and the yellow wallpaper.

“Personally, I disagree with their ideas. Personally, I believe that congenial work, with excitement and change, would do me good. But what is one to do?”

Devised in collaboration with a cast of fine West Australian actors, this new adaptation by Movementworks marks the physical theatre company’s debut. With an intricate set and heart-felt text they bring to life Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s gothic tale The Yellow Wallpaper in a twisted and richly layered production.
