Sculpture by the Sea Cottesloe

Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe will again transform the beautiful Cottesloe beach into an international sculpture park from 1-19 March 2012.

The much loved event, Perth's largest free outdoor art exhibition, attracted over 200,000 visitors last year with locals and tourists alike flocking to the beach to view sculptures by over 70 West Australian, interstate and international artists overlooking the indian Ocean with its breathtaking sunsets.

This year 30 West Australian artists will show their works on Cottesloe Beach, including renowned West Australian sculptures Lou Lambert, Tony Jones and Paul Caporn. They will be joined by 10 artists from NSW including Margarita Sampson and Orest Keywan, as well as artists from Victoria, South Australia, ACT, Northern Territory and Queensland.

Exhibiting alongside the Australian artists are a number of prestigious international sculptors including Keizo Ushio and Zero Higashida from Japan, Steinunn Thorarinsdottir from Iceland and Wang Shugang and Chen Wenling from China. Wenling's 2011 sculpture "Red Memory Smile" was a crowd favourite last year, receiving both the People's Choice Prize and the NAB Kid's Choice Prize.

The exhibition will open with an official media launch on Thursday 1 March at 11am, with the announcement of the recipient of the 2012 NAB WA Sculptor Scholarship of $15,000. Co-principal sponsor NAB has again generously donated the WA Sculptor's Scholarship, the largest sculptor's scholarship or prize in Western Australia. The scholarship is designed to provide an artist with funds to advance to the next stage of their career.

Sculpture by the Sea is a trans-national series of exhibitions with sister exhibitions held along the Bondi to Tamara coastal walk in Sydney in November 2012 and Aarhus, Denmark in June 2013.
