Polar Science for Planet Earth - free talk
American polar researchers and Australian scientists offer a lively and informative evening while sharing some of the discoveries of the recently completed International Polar Year. They will describe how Earth's changing Poles affect weather, climate and the environment everywhere on our planet. The presentation includes visualisations (generated by NASA's satellite views of Earth) of our shrinking Arctic sea ice, high definition video clips capturing the remarkable wildlife inhibiting these Poles, and authentic polar artefacts, such as ancient ice cores, fossils and cold weather clothing will be on display. Attendees will be informed about cutting-edge polar research, discovery and exploration occurring across Earth’s nations by a team of working researchers from the fields of biology, geology, oceanography, climate studies and the indigenous peoples of the Arctic.
