NAIDOC Week Walk

NAIDOC Week Walk

The National NAIDOC Committee invites all Australians to walk with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in a movement of the nation for a better future. Under the theme – Voice. Treaty. Truth.

Let’s work together for a shared future - NAIDOC Week 2019 will be held nationally from Sunday 7 July and continue through to Sunday 14 July. https://www.naidoc.org.au/

Join the City on a short walk of the Butterflies, Birds and Bridges Loop leaving from Kent Street Weir from 8:30am on Sunday 7 July 2019. The loop is 4km return, encompassing a broad range of the Canning River Regional Park's ecosystems. This wheelchair friendly trail is popular with cyclists, walkers and bird-watchers. 4

The path is also dog and pram friendly. Begin the morning with a intergenerational Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, ridding of any bad energy and connecting to Country. Along the walk learn some basic Noongar words and phrases, and enjoy an area rich with history and nature. Following the walk a bush tucker feast will be served - think wattle seed and chocolate muffins, smoked crocodile rice paper rolls and seared kangaroo on grilled damper with onion jam! We will keep you nice and toasty with outdoor heaters and free hot tea and coffee.

Bring along a gold coin donation which will support Sister Kate's Children 1934 to 1953 Aboriginal Corporation , helping to realise their dream of building a healing centre for those of the Stolen Generation.

For catering purposes, please register your attendance by Monday 24 June 2019. Please visit the Link to register: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/naidoc-week-walk-2019-tickets-62030583144
