The Mind Warp Pavilion 4

Following in the shimmering footsteps of the Mind Warp Pavilion events since 2017, we're doing it again in 2020 to commemorate four years since the Starman departed this earthly plane. We're thrilled to announce that Melbourne's Thin White Ukes will be with us for more Bowie-themed love doing their very unique Bowie thing with ukeleles!

⚡ Live music ⚡ Live art
A sparkling array of musicians will again take to the big stage to pay homage to the thin white Duke with their own special, and often very personal, Bowie interpretations.

The Thin White Ukes have been performing the songs of David Bowie with small strings and big harmonies in their hometown of Melbourne and beyond since 2014.

"Bowie is special. Special in so many ways, not just because he epitomised the zeitgeist and his music and persona were completely enthralling, but because anyone who was even a tad left of centre related to him. He encouraged us to dare to be different, to shun the mediocre, to strive for more.

We truly do owe the long-haired lad from Brixton a debt of gratitude. The annual Mind Warp Pavilion events are, in some small way, our way of repaying this debt. His blazing black star inhabits a place in us all; this is what The Mind Warp Pavilion events celebrate.

Each year, myself and co-conspirator, Greg Dear work on bringing you a different show; one that has Bowie's music at its core, but with a little sparkle of innovation. In MWP3, drag act Cherry Poppins dazzled us with her pizzazz and power, we've had soundscapes and the spoken word augmenting the main programme. For MWP4, we will again be calling on the amazing talents of so many local musicians, and we're absolutely delighted that The Thin White Ukes will be joining us. Theirs is such an innovative and exciting concept, one that I am sure would have tickled the fancy of the man himself.

I look forward to those of you who have been MWP stalwarts from the beginning, and those of you who have yet to experience this wonderful coming together of like-minded souls gathering to celebrate the life and times of David Bowie (1947-2016) 😢⚡."

- Leanne Casellas, MWP Events

"Every Bowie fan in Australia pines for the Mind-Warp Pavilion in January so it's a freakin' moonage daydream for us to come join the party in 2020. We'll be playing as much of the Duke’s music as we can in the fanciest pants we can find. Put on your red shoes, Perth. They’ll be floating in a most peculiar way."

- Michael Dwyer, The Thin White Ukes.

Dressing up is not mandatory but we encourage people to unleash their glam side, and be as liberal with the stardust as he was, and we will be AGAIN...

What they're saying about The Think White Ukes:

"Bowie with a darkness and delicacy that gives you goosebumps" Angie Hart
"A new standard of what to expect from this humble instrument" Steve Kilbey
"The best version of ‘Ashes To Ashes’ you ever heard" Robert Forster
"I was singing along like a lovestruck teenager." Kate Ceberano

Part proceeds to the Cancer Council.
