Kings Park Festival 2010

This event has passed!

The 2010 Kings Park Festival will spring to life on 1st September, with five jam packed weeks of events that are bursting at the seams with fun and excitement.

In this International Year of Biodiversity, the festival will celebrate both people and plants in the heart of Western Australia’s Botanic Gardens surrounded by wildflowers in all their spectacular springtime glory.

Each year, over 600,000 people visit the Festival and this year is set to be more entertaining and colourful than ever. From interesting educational workshops and activities through to artistic exhibitions, free family entertainment, and musical and theatre performances there will be something for the whole family to enjoy from the children through to the grandparents.

Every Sunday the Santos Live Sundays will provide free entertainment for the whole family including live music, a children’s theatre show and roving entertainment.

Spoil Dad on Father’s Day at the Big Dad’s Day picnic where there will be a huge line up of free family entertainment, or join the hundreds of children who dress as fairies and pirates to attend the magical annual Wild Fairyland Festival.

Over the long weekend, the ever-popular Wildflower Market Place and Native Plant sale will be buzzing and the Festival will celebrate Australian Indigenous culture over two days with Dreamtime storytelling, didgeridoo performances and traditional dance.

Share in Kings Park’s rich social history by discovering some of the many stories that have been told as part of the Kings Park at Heart project and then take a fantastic journey into a world that is normally hidden from the naked eye as you wander through the incredible Macro Photography exhibition.

Gardening enthusiasts are invited to visit the new Backyard Botanicals Garden at Synergy Parkland for inspiration in creating a colourful native garden at home and you won’t want to miss the World Flower Council’s four day Rotunda Florabunda Spectacular which showcases WA’s floral biodiversity in an innovative and colourful, sculptural installation in the Botanic Garden.

With many more educational and fun ticketed activities and workshops in the areas of art, gardening, and nature on offer along with free entertainment for the whole family throughout the five week program, visit the website at www.kingsparkfestival.com.au or contact the Kings Park Visitor Information Centre on 9480 3634 for the Festival program guide.
