Indian Ocean Classic 2012
Perth beaches will be awash with surf sports on 28 January when the new mass participation event, the Indian Ocean Classic, is staged for the first time.
The Indian Ocean Classic is set to test the athletic skills of surf sports enthusiasts who can compete as individuals or teams in the same categories as the Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Ironman Series – ski, board, run and swim. Iron Man legend Guy Leech and past Iron Man winner Guy Andrews are both confirmed to compete, along with other sports and celebrity teams, setting the stage for an exciting event on land and sea. The Indian Ocean Classic will also include a public beach festival including Surf Boat Races, Fastest Man and Fastest Woman on the sand and the celebrity Bring Back the Biff pillow fight. Plenty of beach action and entertainment and more will be free to the public at Scarborough Beach.
On Saturday 28 January the Indian Ocean Classic will run from 9am – 2pm, Surf Boat Race from 2pm – 4pm and Fastest Man and Woman on sand from 1pm – 5pm.
On Sunday 29 January, Australia’s best surf lifesavers will compete in Perth - Round 4 of Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Ironman and Ironwoman series, back in WA for the first time in 15 years (see http://surfironmanseries.com/ for details).
