Inspired by the bold and exuberant Broadway musicals and Hollywood films of the 1920s and 30s, Compagnie Montalvo-Hervieu returns to Perth with a blend of effervescent contemporary dance, tap, hip-hop, live singing and classical ballet. This diverse range of styles pair with against a backdrop of video that moves from bubbly unbridled make-believe to sobering realism and finally hope.
George Gershwin was a man of energy and substance, who drew on all musical forms and refused to believe in exclusion or discrimination in any form. His freethinking spirit flows through the entire production. Playful yet thoughtful, the disarming dancers swing the audience from past to present, raw to refined, humour to seriousness, unveiling our shared humanity.
Choreographers José Montalvo and Dominique Hervieu are the creative force behind this highly sought after French dance company and have established a reputation for interweaving captivating choreography and new media.
