Fringe World Festival 2014
Perth’s 2014 FRINGE WORLD Festival is bigger, brassier and bolder than ever, with a staggering 450 shows available for the public’s viewing pleasure.
FRINGE WORLD 2014 will be a summer smorgasbord of entertainment to tempt, titillate and tease Perth audiences over four jam-packed weeks, the 2014 program is packed full of new and familiar treats. It is a festival for everyone, and all are welcome. FRINGE WORLD kicks off on 24 January and runs over four weeks till 23 February, packed with a pleasurable array of cabaret, sketch and stand-up comedy, theatre and music performances, with a dash of film and visual art exhibitions thrown in for good measure. The Festival will feature more than 450 free and ticketed shows, to be presented at more than 60 venues.
Tickets go on sale from December 12 and range from $0 - $40 with the average less than $20.
FRINGE WORLD serves up free and tasty treats for your pleasure every night and day of the Festival.
In the Perth Cultural Centre, you can marvel at the majestic Mermaids every night at 6pm and 7pm. Stop by for their half-hour show and maybe even catch a kiss from the glistening beauties that frolic in the Mermaid Tank.
Make sure you don’t miss the new Mermaid adventure, Lotterywest Mermaid Tails and Pirate Sails, with Mermaid Queen Miss Gail Force, which sets sail at 5pm every Saturday and Sunday during the Festival until 15 February.
If you find yourself mesmerised by the Mermaids over 24-26 January, you can climb aboard the good train Sharron and join in her Open Day VIP Tours. The Famous Sharron will guide you around the Perth Cultural Centre, with special VIP access and insider tips on how to make the most out of your Festival experience.
FRINGE WORLD favourite Silent Disco returns to The Urban Orchard once again, with local DJs and guest stars battling it out for your applause. Be sure to bring your dancing shoes, as this disco parties hard!
ABC 720 Perth presents Drive, Live at the Fringe, the perfect opportunity to catch up with the Drive presenters as they interview Festival artists and present live music every Friday of the Festival from 5pm in the Urban Orchard.
There's free entertainment for you to enjoy with a cold bevy every night of the Festival in the Urban Orchard and FRINGE WORLD's new Festival playground, The Pleasure Garden. It's free access to both of these licensed spaces and The Pleasure Garden will also host some very special daytime activities during the Festival.
Fringe is also for your best animal mate, with with Pet Photo Booth returning in 2014. Be sure to register early, as this Festival favourite fills up quick!
Take a break in the gorgeous The West Australian Spiegeltent with songstress Felicity Groom and friends at the Kids Tea Party. With games and entertainment for tots, and some special tasty treats served for the grown-ups, this is the perfect place to while away the afternoon on 27 Jan and 15 Feb from 12.30 – 4.30pm.
Or get crafty with local arts extraordinaires at Crafternoons, under the trees of The Pleasure Garden from 2pm on 25-26 January. Help decorate the Festival garden with your very own fantastic plastic flower creations, and take one home for your own garden too!
And if you find yourself in the Perth CBD during the week, craving a juicy delight only FRINGE WORLD can deliver, you’re in luck. On Thursday 6, 13 and 20 February, the Festival makes a pit stop at Woodside Plaza in the heart of the city. Pull up a pew on the grassy Plaza from 12.30pm, and enjoy your lunch with some of the big Festival personalities, who are rarely seen during the daylight hours. Catch special teaser performances and be inspired to check out what’s on show during the month of Fringe.
