Palace Cinemas and FrameVR are proud to present Australia’s first stand-alone Virtual Reality Film Festival. The inaugural FRIGHT FEST VR FESTIVAL will hit the screen at Palace Raine Square Cinemas this Halloween season from October 24 to November 2, supported by the City of Perth.

The virtual reality nightmares will be served up with 13 sessions over two weeks including special Halloween and late-night sessions. The ghoulish VR experiences span across a range of horror genres including jump scare, zombie, slasher and ghostly films.

FRIGHT FEST VR presents a completely new concept in immersive cinema where audiences experience the films together socially without headphones. New VR technology where they wear only the headset but share the cinema sound, allows the audience share every moment of tension and terror together.

Justin McArdle from Perth-based company Frame VR explains that FRIGHT FEST VR will harnesses Frame VR’s unique dreamdeck360™ immersive cinema system.

“Normally with VR festivals you put on a headset and a pair of headphones, but this cocoons you from the other people in the room and is a solo isolating experience,” says Justin.

“With dreamdeck360™ we have created a communal social experience where you don't wear headphones and will share every creak, scream and jump scare in perfect sync and surround sound with the whole audience!

“This is a whole new entertainment format and we are so excited to be partnering with Palace Cinemas to bring this to Australia for the first time,” he said.

The FRIGHT FEST VR program serves up 20 of the most terrifying experiences in virtual reality films. 13 sessions will screen from Thursday to Saturday for two weeks, with 10 short films per session and different program screening each week.

Highlights include:
“11:57,” —a first-person POV nightmare in which you are strapped to a chair in a dark cave. The experience revolves around your every move but may leave you cowering under your bed.

“Inside The Chamber of Horrors 1 & 2” – you wake up in a cold basement where something is creeping into the room, something too horrific to describe, we dare you to keep your eyes open.

“IT- Float VR Experience” – Enter the universe of Pennywise in this experience which will allow viewers to meet the sinister clown and take a trip into sewers of Derry, the small town in Maine where the story takes place.

The festival kicks off on October 24th with a special opening night presentation that including a Q&A and Prosecco on arrival, with tickets on sale now for $30. All other sessions priced at $20.
