Program Highlights

Late night @ Whitford City
Join MC Meri Fatin on a late-night voyage into the lives of renowned 80s fashion icon’s Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson. Fatin, a former ABC producer and journalist will interview Kee and Jackson who are best known for their influential Bush Couture studio and their Sydney boutique, Flamingo Park in the 1970s. Both are pioneers of Australian style and internationally acclaimed artists and designers exhibiting at the National Gallery of Victoria. One of their most famous collaborations is the chunky-knit koala jumper that Diana, Princess of Wales was photographed wearing at a polo match famously known as ‘Blinky Di’.

Not only will Fatin delve into the exuberant lives of Jenny and Linda, they will be joined on stage by three of Perth’s leading fashion designers, Alvin Fernandez of AE’LKEMI and Dan Romanin and Nina Ergic of One Fell Swoop to discuss the grit and glamour of their combined decades in Australian Fashion.

Fashion Illustration with Michelle Pike
In this intimate class, 20 Perth fashion and art enthusiasts can develop their own personal watercolour illustration style under the guidance of Marmion local artist Michelle Pike.

Appropriate for all levels of experience from beginner to advanced drawing. Attendees will apply a range of techniques to build their skills across figure posing and placement, gradation of skin tones and freehand drawing of the designer garments on a template. There will be a focus on watercolour rendering and techniques including; pantone markers, pen work and special tricks of the trade to help translate vision to paper.

Urban Couture Powered by PechaKucha
PechaKucha Night, now in over 900 cities, was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network and showcase their work in public. PechaKucha is a short, sharp presentation style devised in Tokyo, that invites speakers to use 20 images relevant to their work with 20 seconds allotted to discuss each image. When Fashion + Beauty + Art + Design collide 20 images x 20 seconds per slide.

Urban Couture powered by PechaKucha will host 10 creatives working across a variety of industries that include fashion, textiles and art, who will come together to educate the audience about their practice.

During the evening, the exuberant 2019 Ambassadors Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson will talk on their life within the Australian fashion industry.
